Next week I will be traveling from our home on LCO in Hayward to Minocqua. Is it worth stopping in Park Falls at St. Croix? I think they have a store there where you can buy stuff? Also, do they have any deals on rods or anything or is it the same as everywhere else price wise? Thanks in advance, Tom

they have a full store there with lots of things worth looking at or buying depending on your needs. there are some factory seconds there that are hit-or-miss depending on timing. things like decals that are mis-placed or other very slight things that keep them from going out to the market, but don't make them any less in quality.

from my opinion it's worth a stop ... especially from where you're coming from .... it's just on the north side of town on the right side of the east side of the road ...

Definitely worth checking out, in my opinion. They do have a 'bargain barrel', or they did the last time I was there, with rods that had a manufacturing error of some kind. Could be a minute detail like the color of the windings that caused the rod to not pass inspection. They remove the St Croix label and don't offer a warranty but it's still a perfectly good rod. Even though I have all the equipment I need I think it's cool that someone who has never muskie fished could walk in there and get a complete set-up with a lure already attached and go fish. Might not be cheap but they'd have everything they need, ready to go, and it's high quality.

Just my .02.

Good luck!

It's most definitely worth a stop. They always have a great selection of first quality new rods there. They are the same price as in any other store, as they wouldn't want to undermine their own vendors prices for their product.

The seconds are hit and miss depending on how many seconds there are and the season. Prices vary wildly on seconds depending on what's wrong with them. If you hit it right, you can get some great deals. Naturally in summer tourist season many many more people hit the store and clean out the seconds than in the dead of winter.

Like everyone else has stated, it is definitely worth the stop.

Bargain barrel or not, this place is a piece of fishing history. It may even be the last big production rod manufacturing plant in the US. The blanks are actually made here from scratch, finished and sold without ever going to the Orient. I think an old catalog or web site about St. Croix stated it takes around 100 different processes to make a rod,,,,

You may find some other companies finishing blanks in the US, but I do not think anyone is left in the USA that is actually BUILDING rods in the US.

Go there, visit with the staff, bow your head and enjoy the ride thru a very special piece of history.!!!!
