Posts: 385 | Any of you guys use them? Just picked one up on sale. Seem like a decent reel for the buck. Looks like the same reel as the gander guide series, and the Maina reels too. The thumb bar seems alittle touchy though. Any problems?

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I have been using the Gander 66 reels which are supposedly the same the the Pflueger for two seasons now. So far no problems. seem to work pretty well for an $80 reel. curleytail

Posts: 519 Location: Bloomington, IL | Matt, What's happening? I bought the 7'6" XH All Star rod from you - LOVE THE ROD. Thanks again!!! I do own a couple of these reels and really like them. So far, so good, no problems. As far as I know, they are made by Pflueger, thus the same as a Pflueger Trion 66. Take care, hopefully your season has been good to you. Posts: 1058 Location: Medford, WI | Matt, I love the Trion 66. I also have the 56 which I used for two years and had to order a new pawl and one other part for it just this past winter...but like I said that was after two years and the 56 isn't built to handle the heavy baits I was throwing with it. If you don't mind me asking...where did you get the 66 and how much did you get it for? I've been looking for another one or two, but can't afford to buy them at the retail (around $90). Thanks, Jake

Posts: 385 | I got it through a place called Champion Outfitters. Found them online. I believe the reel was 80 bucks.

Posts: 519 Location: Bloomington, IL | Keep an eye out on eBay and you can get them a lot cheaper. I have 2 GS66 and one GS56 and got them all for under $80. One (GS66) was used and in good shape (more of a back up reel, but the other two were in excellent to like new condition. Again, keep your eye out and you s/b able to score one for $25 to $40. Posts: 109 | Same reel as Gander and also same reel as the Bass Pro Shops Pete Maina reel. Externally the "frame" is slightly different but ALL internal parts are interchangeable. You can take the side frames with all internals and swap with any of the other 66 sized reels. I have used the Pfleuger Trion 66 for about 4 years now. When I have had problems with it all I had to do was clean and lubricate it with oil and grease and it works as new again.
