| All of these I am putting in the article section of the site under member articles for easy learning in the future.
Here is the discription of the small lake.
500 acre round lake
Deep bowl style
50 ft deep in the middle
The weed line starts at 10ft
Shoreline to the weed edge is 100ft.
Shallow structure is reeds.
Forage:cisco and perch
Water color clear, 12ft of clarity
Weeds: cabbage, coontail
Bottom: sand and muck in the deeper areas
Spring fed lake
The water is located in Vilas Co Wisconsin and is a good balanced fishery. Large fish are common from this small lake, but not numbers.
Its October, water temps are 45 to 50. wind at 10mph from the northwest.
1)Where are you going to fish?
2)With what presentation?

| 9.9 times out of 10 I'm looking for BIG fish at this time and so are my clients so I'm not going to spend alot time in the shallower areas espiecally if water temps are in the 40's. Fast deep breaks from the shore or sometimes right down the middle in the deepest part of the lake, if I do spend anytime shallow it will be near green weeds (if there still healthy) with deep water just ajacient or rock-bars and points with the fast breaks. Crank-baits that will dive at least 10ft,(my farorites are Depth Raiders) and deeper diving pull baits are a must. For the skinny water, Suicks and glide-baits and twiching big Grandma's, Slammers and Jakes over the tops of the bars and points and always, always, dragging the biggest sucker on a circle hook I can find. |

| Jason,
I fish a similar lake only mine is 104' deep in the middle.
Find the Cisco's and you'll find the better fish. If this is later in OCT. the little fella's will start to move shallower for spawning bringing the ski's with'em. IF they haven't moved in yet I'm fishing open water for big fish and weed edges for action.
NW wind is not my favorite in my neck of the woods it usually indicates a cold front in progress or already passed through. I would first try the outside edge of the weeds then work my way into the inside edge.
If the cold front theory is true I will work slow moving glide baits tight to cover. If that don't get'em I would tend to finese'em with rubber in their face such as Bulldawgs or even a jig of some type.
If NW wind does not mean cold front and fish are relatively aggressive the above approach would be roughly the same except I would use a little more agressive and maybe larger sized baits..e.g. 10" Jakes, larger glide baits (worked with twitch not glide)or crank baits that are ripped/pause/cranked.
And DON'T forget to find the Cisco....
Just my 2cents worth but it has been a good pattern on my lake that is very similar to your desciption. My lake has fair population of skies in 30's and nice ones up to mid 40's, sooner or later we'll see some upper 40's or 50 from there.

| Assumption:
1) Three muskie-teers in the boat.
Lookin' for a fatty at this time of the year. I want a nice long drift down the primary and secondary edge. Position the boat in 15 to 30 feet. Three suckers on quick strike rigs - one on the bottom, one down 20 feet, one down 10 feet. One person casting the weed edge with crankbaits and squirkos. Middle person casting bulldawgs and deep diving crankbaits. 3rd person jigging bulldawgs right off the bottom of the lake. Making contact with as much as possible. Ripping the Dawg off the bottom when nearing the boat. I prefer a teaser blade on the Dawg when working it off the bottom.
Keep an eye out for Cisco. If you locate a school, try and stay near it and work the area extremely hard. A fatty won't be too far off. |

| Jenkins hit the nail on the head, short guys must think a like.
Suckers!!!! |

| To Chuck's attack, I would add a swimmer jig, like the new Herbie Jig by Bait Rigs, with a creature. Fish the first 15 feet of the vegetation, and the edge and secondary breaks, too. |
