Posts: 38 | Does anyone ever get fish to take dawgs on the figure 8? I seem to just get hot fish to chase them around 4 or 5 times and never grab it. Its been super frustrating... Help..lol If you guys get them to eat on the 8, what techniques do you use? THanks, Joe Edited by Musky_Joe 7/12/2007 12:16 AM

Try pumping the lure too so it gives it a little hop as it goes around. I have also noticed that when a fish tracks a lure slightly off to the side and not directly behind it, it seems to really want to eat. Does anyone else ever notice this?? Posts: 427 Location: Wausau | One technique that I have used for low and slow follows is - as you bring the dawg in for the last 10 feet and you see the fish low, leave about 8' of line out and with your rod (longer better) pull the dawg along, but don't reel. Then once the dawg is on the far side of the pull, let it sink to the length of the line. Just before it goes straight, snap your line over the dawg in the reverse direction. This will cause the dawg to roll over on it's self and quiclky move up wards, when you again let it fall. Fish will hit on the second fall - at least the ONE I caught... For the "hot" fish - speed and depth changes.

Posts: 42 Location: Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin | I have gotten a couple on twin fins at the boat fishing on trout water in Canada. The first was an accident, just playing with it at the boat to see the action & a deep follower hit. The 2nd was on purpose using the same technique. I agree with leaving a lot of line out & keeping it deep in the water, especially in clear water. In my experience the fish don't spook as much. Both of the fish that I caught were pretty lazy follows that I did not see until after the 1st time around. I was doing my figure 8's about 4-5 down, but you need clear water for that. Just my 2 cents.

Posts: 59 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | All of my fish that I've caught on bulldawgs have been on the 8, don't even know what a hit feels like out there. I like to rip it up right next to the boat then jig it around in a 8...

Posts: 227 Location: Southeast Wisconsin | On some lakes I think the fish are just sick of looking at that stupid tail. Try using a throw back lure. Something with a boot/paddletail seems to be the ticket this year, but Ive also converted a few on a Weagle....Actually, more than a few..

| i caught my first muskie on a bulldawg going into the eight. it came outta nowhere and just hammered it! had the whole magnum dawg in its mouth! it was a nice 43"er! the way i figure eight them is i just jig em in a big O usually twice. the biggest o i can make with my 7'6" bulldawg rod. thinking of going to a 8' or 8'6" next year. | |||
