Posts: 358 Location: London, England | I want to get a slow moving topwater and was thinking Hawg Wobbler. Is this still the best of that genre or are the Lee lures top h2o, Hawg Seeker Boss Hawg, etc worth considering instead?

Posts: 619 Location: Verona, WI | I would look at how the fish are hitting the bait. If in the water you fish the fish are really hitting topwaters solid you are better off with a Boss Hawg or a Top H20 as the blade is an extra attractor that the Hawg Wobbler doesn't give you. On the other had if the fish are nipping at the bait and you need that rear hook to give you a shot at catching the fish, go with the Hawg Wobbler - it's a classic and it works. My .02. Shane

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I'm not a huge fan of slow moving top water baits. I just don't have the patience to fish slow most of the time. But there is definitely a time and place for that kind of presentation. I would defnitely check out the Boss Hawg. If you haven't seen these in the water you can see a video clip on Hawg Seekers' website. http://www.hawgseekers.com/ Great action. Similar to a Hawg Wobbler. But I think the action is a little better, easier to fish faster if the need is there. And better quality components. As far as other slow moving top waters. Don't forget your creeper style baits. Again, too slow for my fishing style. But if I have a big fish located, sometimes that might just be what it takes. There's a ton of creeper style baits out there. Some are constructed much better than others. Aaron

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | for a go-to bait with a located fish it's hard to beat the hawg wobbler. creepers are also an obvious second choice for similar situations and i've found a few more bait's for this type of presentation. contact craig nimmer in tomahawk or look for his biats at rollie and helens musky shop .... he's probably one of the most creative and innovative baitmakers and has some pretty cool stuff. i have a prop bait that will go with very little effort and another with double flap blade that i just got from him. also, i've been able to tune my rumbler to work really slow and make lots of noise too ... also, have been impressed with the deep sound at low speed that can be had with the prop bait made by lee tauchen ... can't remember the name of it but tossed it out of my partner's box a week or so ago and was impressed with it's quick start and slow movement sound ... good luck! always fun to shop for more baits ...

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | I use to be a hog wobbler man till I threw Lees top H2O. I have thrown lees bait now for...oh...6 years?? I like it ove the hog wobbler because I can work it faster than the hog wobbler and not have it blow out. I still work it slower, but if I get a hot fish on it I can speed it up without loosing the bait, blowing out. Cory

Posts: 194 | Take a look at the American Hardwood Lures Giant Klunker. It built like a tank and really throws around a ton of water. They also make a double Jointed lure that is similar called the Wuumper. www.musky-lures.com

Clip a ten inch jointed Believer on the shallow eye and rumble that along the surface and see how you like the sound! Pick up the speed and you can crank it down a couple of feet over deeper stuff plus troll it to your next area. Excellent sound and versatility with no re-rigging in the dark, Beleiver is also one of the better hooking baits I use, surface or otherwise. Some of the older style ones use no rattles, newer have rattles and even newer ones have rattles that are different still. They're all good. Try the old 8" jntd if there's LM bass in the lake. I've had them to 7/8lbs suck in the 10"ers like a tube jig. Big smallmouth hit them too. Not as slow as you'd think you can move them pretty good, the body joints alone really clunk hard, plus the rattles inside. Slower you move it, the louder she runs. Pike to only about 32/34 inches were destroying them on the Moon River all last week, slow crawled at and after dark, what a riot. My buddy's first esox ever was a pike about 30" that hit five feet from his rod tip, just when it got too dark to see. Amazing how much louder stuff seems when they turn out the lights and your ears tune in. Good luck Tim.

Location: The Yahara Chain | You can't beat the Hawg Wobbler IMO, I have bought about every Hawg Wobbler wannabe that is out there and none of them are as good as the original. Reeling it slow is what gets it eaten IMO. The B.S. Willy creeper (one piecer) is my new favorite slow retrieve trigger, but if you want a hawg wobbler type...get the original. Posts: 358 Location: London, England | Many thanks to all those who replied. I guess they all work! I'm tempted to try the Lee lures version, but it's twice the price of any of the others...... Decisions, decisions.
