Hello all,

I fish a particular metro lake on a very regular basis. On the opener, I had excellent weed growth in 8-12 feet of water and moved a lot of fish off of this structure. I left the second weekend of the season for Mille Lacs and then have fished my normal lake every weekend since then. When I wnet out the third weekend of the season (June 23-24) and all of my deep weeds were gone. Completely! Not even reminanats on my depth finder. The same exact points that had great weed growth were clear of all weeds. This included midlake humps, points that are up to 300 yards off of shore, everything. I had to go into less than six feet of water to find weeds and they defintiely weren't the same quality I had earlier in the year.

Does anyone know why this is?

By the way, I caught a 44" fish off this lake yesterday. My personal best to date. How do I post a picture??

if it was curly leaf pondweed, that stuff usually dies off in late june/early july.

Thanks for the info guys. When does the cabbage start picking up where these weeds left off and how do you guys change strategy once these initial weeds die off.

I moved shallower to move the fish I saw and caught yesterday. (2-6' of water in the weeds). I tried the same humps that used to have the weeds and nothing was moving.

Also, how do I post a pic?

I appreciate the help. It isn't Bald Eagle, but similar in nature to Bald Eagle.

Thanks,
Chuck

I'd fish it up until about the end of June when it starts to die off, and then move elsewhere. When it decomposes it causes an abundance of nitrogen and a lack of oxygen in those areas, so I doubt it would hold fish. If there's any coontail in those areas though, I would definitely fish that.
