So the local muskie lake has been treated and within days the weeds dropped out of sight. Beautiful muskie habitat -- cabbage, pond weed, etc -- all gone. Fishing action was great for the 4 days between opener and the 'fun with chemicals' party.

So what's the approach now? Looking for any insight into fishing lakes that lose most weed growth each year due to chemical treatment. Or do I just move on to a different lake?

It would be nice to know what lakes have been treated and when as I have made trips before to go to a lake, taken off of work, etc.. only to get there to find out the whole lake had been treated.

I know that Independence has been notorious for treatments with chemicals, what lakes do you guys know of that have been treated already this year???? And if you know, when did it take place???

Thanks for any help. Waconia sometimes sprays too, but I think only certain parts of the lake. I don't know if it has started yet this year or not.

Be sure to check just a little bit deeper, many times the Weed Killer will not affect deep weeds in the same area

Yep, I went from hero to zero in a week. Saturday I seen 25% of the weeds I seen the week before and 1/2 the clarity. No fish, no follows, no rips.

With the cover gone, fish have to re-transition themselves and I am sure the lake's oxygen takes a hit too. I am sure it takes a coupe weeks for things to settle down and for a pattern to develope.

What effect does it have on the fish, are they feeling hungover for a few days or what? People are so worried about cars polluting the air and here we have people intentionally polluting our waters. (I must be getting old to think this way.)

One thing I see is alot of fresh dead panfish after a weedkill. It can't be good in the short run but in some cases it has been tremendous in the long run.
