Lately I've been making my own spinner rigs, you know, like a crawler harness: 36" long with beads, a blade and one or two hooks. I've been impressed with how they catch fish; we've caught lots of bass, a couple walleye and some very fast swimming and determined bluegills. Used crawlers, bass minnows and leaches.

Does anyone have any experience using spinner rigs designed for muskies? Like, using 6" sucker minnows behind bigger beads and blades?

I think the regulations changed in MN recently, so that you can't legally use a spinner when sucker fishing for Muskies, or that you must have the spinner a certain distance away from the bait. Not exactly sure, but I think there was some different wording regarding spinners in the Regulation handbook. I'm sure someone here knows for sure. I've caught a few with the spinner/sucker rig before. It worked very well.

The regulation is being changed this year. In MN before you had to have a spinner no more then X distance from the sucker. The rule will be passed that you don't need the spinner this year. You can still use it, but it isn't going to be required (from what I've been told anyway).

I have used them early in the year and in fall. Just use it like a quick-strike rig-Herbie rig with a rubber band through the nostrils, large spinner and beads in front, treble hook behind. Free spol with clicker on. When fish takes get in position and set the hook. You can go fast or slow. Sometimes the blade just wobbling back and forth is what they want.

Have boated several musky on southeastern wi. lakes using spinner rigs. I still use nightcrawlers, and musky eat them up. I use a # 6 fluted blade with 2 small trebles. The only draw back is panfish chew up the tail end Quickly. Maybe a power worm or gulp would solve that problem???:-O

Ranger, thanks for this idea. I am going to give this a try memorial day weekend. I think this may just work.
