There were three muskies registered at the WMT's Lake Monona muskie tournament Saturday, May 12th. Mike(Jr. & Sr.) Leombrini registered the first muskie of the event with a 40 1/4 incher at 8:05am. Garth Darton and Seth Rehfeldt caught the largest and the winning fish at 9:10am with a 41 1/2" muskie. The team of Mike Caple and Craig Oertel registered the last fish at 9:50am and scored 39 1/2 inches.

The tournament paid down five places:
1st - Garth Darton/Seth Rehfeldt
2nd - Mike Leombruni Sr./Mike Leombruni Jr.
3rd - Mike Caple/Craig Oertel
4th - Mark Gillich/Justin Gaiche
5th - Tim Cerney/Jerry Wilson

For a more detailed description and full color photos of the WMT's Lake Monona tournament, pick up the next issue of the Badger Sporstman Magazine.

The next tournaments for the WMT will be on May 19th at Lake Pewaukee and May 20th on Lake Okauchee. The Pewaukee tournament is full but there is still some room open for the Lake Okauchee tourney. If you are interested in signing up for the Okauchee tournament you can sign up for it on Friday May 18 or Saturday, May 19th at the Machine Shed Resaurant between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:30pm.

Serious question--How do you pay five places with only three fish caught? How do you decide who gets fourth and fifth?

Hello Stein,

Good question! The WMT has always guaranteed five pay-outs at our one-day events(even though in our first year we had only 10 teams fish one of our one-day event and had to take money out of my own pocket to pay down five places and awarded half of the feild with pay checks) and 10 pay-outs at our two day qualifying events. If we do not have enough fish registered for all of the pay-outs, we draw from the teams who did not receive money already. This is in our rules and we have stuck to it with consitency troughout the seven years and 88 tournaments of the WMT.

We have stuck to our rules for the pay-outs for many reasons, but also because the way teams qualify for the WMT's Invitational Championship is first by how much money they earn in each region or during the Major Open Championships and secondly by their points standings. Teams go to our qualifiers with this knowledge and expect that a certain amount of teams will make it from the tournament, no matter how bad the fishing conditions are on that given day of a WMT event, and that the WMT will not disappoint them.

Thanks,

Tom
