| Kentucky- flats and wood
Wisconsin- weeds and open water
Mille Lacs-weeds and sand

| I'm with Jonesi...I fish Eagle Lakes West Arm, and we have 4 or 5 spots that are deep shorelines, with nothing but rock! BUT, there are only 5 or 6 spots that seemingly would hold big fish in weedbeds. So, we fish alot of structure not characteristic of early season!
So I'm going with:
West Arm...some steep/deep shorelines, shallow rock piles / shallow weedbeds
Vermilion Bay...shallow weedflats / reed edges / shallow rock piles
BIG Eagle...huge weed shorelines...some are 2-3 miles long
Boulder Bay to Osborne...any flats with weeds or wood

Location: nationwide | I picked the shallow bays. Why are they my favorite? Because that's where I find the fish most years. Where ever the fish are . . . that is my favorite spot.

| It's normally a couple days into July when I get out on the first wknd of our season. Weeds are normally good, rockpiles in or near the weeds and open water's always good. Last Opener the weeds were in great shape really early and there were good fish on them (huge smallies, a few nice walleyes and pike also). Staying over about forty feet of water in between spots was good when we trolled. God I hate the way a ten inch jerkbait hacks up a big bass. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I mostly fish the Wisconsin River in the early part of the season until the Northern Opener and I concentrate on high current areas with plenty of current breaks. I hammer the really shallow fast water with downed timber, rocks, points and islands. Most fish are taken in less than 2 feet of water right tight to structure, pretty much have to hit them in the head. |

| My vote was for the windblown shorelines and points. Many times these spots will incorporate other cover such as wood, rocks, and weeds. However, I think the key is the "chaos and turmoil" created by the wind/waves. |
