Do any of the units handle this kind of speed?

Doubt it...but....I think it'd mostly depend on depth of water and ping speed set on your unit...but I really doubt it for any kind of accuracy...4 fow of water with your ping speed at 100% you might get a reading...but probably with no accuracy..any deeper than that.....

Yes and no, The Lowrance on my last boat would resd at a full speed of 57MPH BUT, That's like 1 ping for every 40 feet of travel. You won't see fish or be able to tell much about bottom content but you may be able to keep tabs on depth with a very good transducer setup. Ducer placement is critical to getting any reading at all as bubbles or excessive turbulence will give you a fuzzy screen. If you want to be able to tell what you are looking at 20MPH or less is more realistic.

Should read up to and past 70 MPH with proper transducer placement. Bass boats run faster with good readings on the sonar.

Mine gives solid readings at all speeds up to WOT upper 50's. Placement is key, that's why I had sworrall place mine!

the manual of my new Humminbird actually comments on this "myth". (yes, i read my manual. i'm a fishing geek.)
anyway, it describes the speed of sonar/sound in water (extremely fast), the number of pings per second (4:1 i believe), and basically laughs at the notion that you could ever drive a boat fast enough to outrun your sonar.

imho, if you're losing signal at high speed it's probably more likely a transducer placement or interference/noise issue, something that is likely to be made worse when you're driving fast and create the appearance that you're "outrunning" your sonar signal.
the power of the signal could be a factor here as well? ie., a signal with less power would be more impacted by turbulence from the hull, etc., etc.? anyone know how that factors in?

The default setting on my lowrance is at 50% the maximum amount of pings / sec. The manual says it works best at that speed, however, if you want greater clarity when traveling to change the ping speed manually.
