I forgot to post this, but a couple weeks ago we stocked 99 16"ers in Tonka. We were also fortunate enough to have the North American Fishing Club tape some footage to be used in an up-coming episode.

Here's the link to the pics:

This post was moved up to the main page from the Muskie Club forum temporarily to give it the visibility and good P.R. that it deserves.
Check out the cool pictures at the link, too.
Great job!

Shawn, any trouble getting the fish, and what was the cost for 99 Muskies at 16 inches? Thanks.

Shawn,

I'm not sure if you or anybody else is interested but I saw on a bulletin board that a guy is selling Ciscos for $4.00 per dozen in northern Mn.

Could these be used in the rearing ponds?

Brad, these were $25/each. A little steep IMO but you're going to pay if you want bigger fish. We typically don't want fingerlings in the waters down here because of all the pike and big bass (your bass are eating all our muskies! LOL). We got these from McKensey Fish Co.

It's always an adventure getting fish. These guys want firm commitments but they're so bad about coming through it can drive a guy mad.

Top H2O, I don't know what we'd do with ciscos. The fish in our pond aren't big enough to be able to eat them. I think the ones in our pond should be in the 12" range right now. The ponds we have aren't deep or clean enough to really even allow them to do well anyway.

Are there any known survival rate percentages for stocked fish this size? Are they marked or tagged in any way?

Kevin

Smoked meats.

There was a study done by some agency and they found that roughly 10% of fingerlings stocked survived to maturity. I think it was 35% of 2 year olds survived to maturity.

We don't tag any of our fish. The DNR doesn't like non-state agencies to monkey around with tagging fish.

Them's good eatin size right there!

Seriously though guys -- great job. Nice to see these sorts of things being done by the local clubs. Yet another reason to join Muskies inc. if you haven't already.
