| Which knot do you use when tying your super braid to the mono backing? I have a difficult time making a blood knot is there an easier knot to use?

Location: Medford, WI | Hey guys, thanks for the exact instructions on the knot. However; could anyone tell me why you need backing in the first place? I know the larger diameter line can slip in the beginning of the spool, but if you just put a piece of black electric tape on your normal line straight to the spool doesn't that resist slipping? Maybe not, I don't know. I used to use backing up until last spring when I started taping directly to the spool and never had it slip on me once.
I don't know a whole lot about this, so maybe if someone could chime in that would help.

| could anyone tell me why you need backing in the first place?
when using reels with large line capacity, it's much cheaper to put 100-150 yards of mono backing on the reel rather than filling all that space with expensive super braid.

| Braided line will slip on the spool making it appear that your drag is slipping when in fact all the line on your spool is actually spinning on the spool. Backing also fills the reel so you do not have to put as much expensinve braid on the reel.
As for knots I just use a overhand knot and do it twice. There is no reason to tie a fancy know when the strength of the knot will never come into play. I did at least 500 reels like this this winter already and at least the same number last year and haven't had a comlaint yet! |

| Elecrical tape works just fine. I've used it many times on assorted reels. |

| Question for Lambeau. What kind of reels are you putting 100-150 yards of backing on? I guess more importantly what weight of backing and what weight of braid? How much braid are you getting on the reel after the backing? On a standard reel like a 6500 size spool I usually put about 30 yards of 17-20 lb. mono backing and then have enough room for approx. 100 yards of braid. |
