How long are you save to run an outboard without water hooked up to it?
Thanks

Not safe at all. The impeller will wear very rapidly without water to lubricate and cool.

I turned it over and it idled for about 2 or 3 seconds. Is it ok? If not is it hard or expensive to replace the impeller?
Thanks

That short a period shouldn't hurt.

That depends on if it was really dry or frozen. Check the impeller by backing the rig into the water on the trailer and firing it up before getting too far from the shore.

Not too bad as far as expense, I'd have a dealer do it and check the lower unit at the same time.

Not too expensive for the impellor. I think the last one I did was $40 for the kit at Fleet Farm. Took about an hour, and that included draining and replacing the lube.
