Posts: 199 Location: Nebraska | Does anyone know if there is ANY version of any brand of chip that will cover the Winnipeg River area around Minaki, ON? At least with some depth contour info. I can't find anything on the Navionics site. Any other brands?

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | I don't think so. But I have the Navionics chip for Canada and it had a rough display of the Minaki area when I was there last September. Meaning, it had the islands in brown, white deep water, and blue for shallow water. However, they were "blocked" and didn't have any curves to them. All lines were straight so detail was poor. But using the map, you can get around pretty good. I hope this helps.

Posts: 332 Location: Michigan | Stein, Yes, Mapsource Blue Chart has a detailed mapping chip of the Winnipeg River ( Whitedog Dam-Minaki, Sand lake...). The chip number is CA012R and also includes LOTW and Rainy Lake and River. Unfortunatly Mapsource is not compatable with Lowrance, Humminbird, Eagle... But if you have Garmin your in business.See below. http://www.garmin.com/cartography/bluechart/card.jsp?sku=MCA012R Jason Edited by Slimeball 4/11/2007 12:28 PM

Posts: 72 | The Navionics West Great Lakes chip is the one that covers the Winnipeg River up to the Whitedog Dam. I spend most of my summer up at Rough Rock Lodge and the chip has been awesome. It is utilizing the Canadian Hydrographic Service data and is incredibly accurate. Navionics is also introducing the Lake of the Woods +2 chip which has Lake of the Woods (high definition for what is done and Canadian Hydrographic Data for everything else) as well as all the high definition lakes in Minnesota from Mille Lacs north and also has North Dakota and other lakes in Canada on it. They are saying that it will have the Winnipeg River on it, but I want to see it first and make sure. The LOTW+2 will only be a $99 chip!!! Brett Erickson www.thornebros.com

Posts: 199 Location: Nebraska | Well, it looks like there are more options than I thought. Slimeball, I haven't bought the GPS yet, as I was waiting on the Garmin vs. everyone else thing due to their chips not being compatible, so that is an option. Looks like it would cover the area. Brett, I was going through the Navionics site on the marine navigation side, not the fishing side and I think I see what you are talking about. In the past I was always looking on the Fishing side of the site. There were a couple of maps on the West Great Lakes. They have the XL9, XL3 and L maps. The L map titled LOTW was CA245L. This might be the new one you were talking about, but not sure. Pretty small map coverage compared the the others, but hits all of the area I would need. The XL3 map was 900P. It is much larger, but assume they both cover the area. These are both based on the Canadian Hydrographic charts? Meaning the detail is the same as what is on the paper charts?

Brett, do you know when the canada+2 chip is going to be available. I also spend considerable time on the winnie(along with the other lakes mentioned) and feel it might be worth the wait for it.
