Posts: 392 Location: KY | I have been working on a new batch of baits this winter. Thought I would show them off “in process”. I tested the first one this week at the local creek. It did well. The wobble was a bit wider than I expected. I will have to tweak the bill and/or the lead placement on the next one. Any suggestions on how to get a tighter wobble. Thanks, Bruce Attachments ---------------- DSC_0015b.JPG (26KB - 202 downloads) DSC_0016b.JPG (25KB - 437 downloads) DSC_0022c.JPG (23KB - 139 downloads) DSC_0017b.JPG (28KB - 149 downloads)

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Got to ask... What does it take you in time to finsh one of those from start to end (painted and coated). I woudl think one of those woudl take me at least 2 hours of actual hands on time... Very nice! James

Posts: 392 Location: KY | Thanks James. I spent way more than two hours on the first couple. If I were to try to make 50, I think I could get the time down to around two hours. Or maybe three. I have no plans to make 50. LOL I layout the shape, slot for wire-form, dowel holes, and slot for bill on 2x5x1/2 stock with templates drill holes for dowels with jig router slot for wire and hole for lead with jig clean up hole for lead with home made screwdriver chisel band saw outline and slot for bill shape on belt sander shape by hand sanding twist wire by hand with looping pliers cut bill on band saw with paper template taped on lexan hammer an egg sinker square glue body together with devcon from there you know the rest Thanks again, Bruce

Posts: 480 | Bruce, I would not round the lip as much, try a smaller radius on the corners. Maybe move the weight on the front half of balanced center about a half inch. Good luck

I think usually, if the lip is wider than the lure body you get a tighter action, when the bodies wider than the lip you get a wide wobble. It looks like your bait and lip are the same width (look very nice by the way) you could either try to widen your lip or sand the body a little thinner to get the action you want. Just a thought.

Man awesome design and through wire. It must have taken alot of time to rough out. As far as a tighter wobble I would change your bill design to more like a coffin style and make it shorter, I would also try and make it the same width as the lure itself.

Posts: 392 Location: KY | I have been working with the first and second of my shad crank baits. I went ahead and painted the first, even though I have not been able to tune it the way I would like it to swim. It "hunts" excessively to the point where it will roll over in both directions at a fast retrieve. The second however swims great. The significant difference, I believe, is the position of the line tie. It is moved closer to the nose of the bait. I actually used a little less weight in the second to get a faster rise. After painting and e-tex the first backs up slower than I would like. I hope my sharing the lessons I am learning helps someone. Almost everything I know about lurebuilding I have learned on the net. I too, love to see the entire through-wire process. That is a real work of art. Bet it only takes about 20 minutes to make one, hey? Beav
