What type of rod do you guys prefer for small to medium size twitch baits? I not concerned with brand as much as length and action. Thanks

I built myself an 8 foot Diamondback on the Jerkbait blank.

I hold the stick straight out in order to twitch it. We have all learned to twitch straight down but if you think of it your stick is not in a good hook set position. With a longer stick twitching straight out you get the same amount of bait travel as you would with a short stick twitching straight down and your stick is in a good hook set position.

Having said that it is still whatever you feel comfortable with.

Are you going to use that XXXH as a twitch bait rod?

Uhh, No. That rod is for the heavy stuff. I'm just curious what type of rods folks are using for twitch baits. I just about tripled my twitch bait arsenal this winter. Big Games, SS Shads, Shallow Invaders etc. Good point on the hook set position. I was considering using a 7'6" MH St Croix, but I have one bait that'll prolly stay glued on the end of that one most of the year.

Kazmuskie,

I use an 8' MH Diamondback for Smoker Shads. For Shallow Invaders I like either an 8' H Diamondback or my custom 8' Avid (heavy).

For smaller twitchers, like small jakes, a 6'6" Cortland. For bigger twitchers, like 7.5" Grannies, a 6'6" custom made heavy action rod. These are my shortest rods because I like to twitch with the rod tip down, but not in the water.
