Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Here are some foil Grunts I did this week. I did not realize these took so long to do! I can now see why their isn't anyone out there making these a lot. Well, what do you think? Any suggestions or pointers? At the bottom of hte pics are two finished lures. I am going to see how they do at on eBay. I highly doubt they will make up for the time spent ;/ Call one "The Spartan" and the other one "Black Knight". Pic1 is just a blank Pic2 is foil painted black and the high sides polished Pic3 is the foil cut out Pic4 is the foi on a blank Pic5 is a finished "Black Knight" Grunt Pic6 is a finished "The Spartan" Grunt James PS-Thanks to those of you on this board who emailed me and gave me some hints! Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | What I did not show was that I painted the foil and then took off the high points of paint with solvent. I also tried painting and then using a 220 grit sandpaper on my mouse sander and this dulled the foil a little. I think if I was using pure copper foil it woudl work better for the sander solution.

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | PS-That "BLACK KNIGHT" has to be about the coolest bait I have made. Pictures do not do it justice. Now the question, will it attract fish? I think if any light hits it, it will.

Posts: 179 Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan | I like them both....did you come up with that idea of taking off the high spots with solvent? That is really cool. I make alot of foiled baits and never thought of that. I think that black knight will catch fish no doubt in my mind. Rod

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | rjbass, Just thought of the solvent idea as I was doing the lures but, I work in a chemical lab so I use odd things all of the time to clean up stuff. I may make a WHITE KNIGHT also. Should be similar to a cisco but of course more flash. The only pain is that these take a lot longer to make and I am in full gear now making regular Grunts. These foils baits are definitly winter time projects James

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Thanks MuskieFool! I look at your lures a lot to try and get ideas. I will never be able to make anything close to what you do in shape or paint. You lures are some of the select unique ones I have seen out there.

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Thanks Luke. I owe my few foil baits to those on this board. I did find a little info out there but I got 95% of the ideas and pointers on this board! Can't thank you guys enough for the help and constructive points. Anything else is welcome on the pros or cons of what you see in my lures. One point I can make it that I wish I could paint some "real fish" looking baits like others here. Just don't have the time to pump out 50 baits/week though with that kind of work (plus I have no painting talent! LOL). I can do a stick fish and that is about it. James

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Got one more made. Decided to see if I could make some wrap around foils for my jointed models. A little harder to get the one big piece of foil but it works out alright I think. Still trying to get the best method of attaching th efoil to the bait. I have tried adding a small amount of epoxy to the bait and pressign on the foil and also adding the epoxy to the foil and then to the bait. Seems to work a little better applying th eepoxy tot hte bait first. Messsssy though! Gald I have about 2000 medical gloves in the house. Making a white foil bait right now. Have to have someone for the "Black Knight" to fight... lol James Ps-Just noticed I do have a pictue of the cutout for the jointed lure above. As you can see it is a long foil piece with the tail piece under it. Edited by Grunt Lures 3/24/2007 9:38 PM Attachments ---------------- Picture1.jpg (34KB - 118 downloads)

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Made two more. I think I am about done with this method unless I pick up painting th e"real" fish look on them. Not sure I can do much more with these types. If I get some time (ha ha) I may try making the scale pattern out of gold leaf. That one woudl stay in my collection for sure! Thanks again for he help everyone. These were fun to make. Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Thanks Muskie-kid. I think I just need to dig up the old Bob Ross videos to teach me how to paint! That guy was great to watch while painting. Been dead a long time but he could paint the best little squirrels (LOL). I bet if he ever painted muskie lures it would have been an interesting show. Sorry if this is before your time Makes me feel old when I see his picture... James Edited by Grunt Lures 3/28/2007 6:38 AM Attachments ---------------- bob-ross-tv.jpg (23KB - 116 downloads)

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | I remember seeing him on PBS before or after the "Floppy Show" when I was a kid in Iowa. He always talked like he was very high. He coudl paint a great picture in about 15 minutes though just using simple tricks. Some good tricks I am sure coudl be used in lure painting to get some great effects.
