Well....it just goes to show there is "nothing new under the sun".

Although I followed this discussion with great interest I am very glad that the "bluf" has been called and that we can stop this thing.

Cmon guys.....let guys like me enjoy the extreme craftsmenship you guys produce. Because of your creativity I, and many others, are persuaded into buying expensive lures all the time so we can fish with "different" lures.

Snax...I really respect the way you make your baits and how they look...you know I own several of your lures (I even just got your walleye spinnerbait). It is also known that I really respect what Tim does and that I own alot of his baits to. When I posted the thread back then with the new Novak Truelife baits the only thing I was wanting to do is to let other people enjoy these lures as much as I did. I had to get on my knees before Tim allowed me to post the pictures. I was very glad he finally gave in cause I just know that this thread must have been an inspiration for others, just like every new thread from you is Snax....and that is what it is all about.

So for every baitbuilder out there, see every new post and every "modified(!!!)" lure as a new standard and a new high goal to reach. That is the only way that you will be pushed into creations you would never imagined to be possible.

I am looking forward to new baits and new threads in my beloved "basement section".

Thanks
Jokemon

PS oh and Toad great stuff again!....I also have a Novak with individual carved scales on it....and just like you Tim said it is TERRIBLE to make....I will see if I can post a picture later on. Do show your work ...can't wait to start enjoying again

I believe this might be the scale bait you mentioned?
As you can tell, I keep an extensive collection of most of your works. I do that partly to admire them and partly so as not to accidentally come out with the very same thing unknowlingly.

Great work.

Thanks Mike....this will save me some time to post and this is exactly the one I was talking about

But I am not really sure, but you talk about "your" works. I don't know if you were trying to say that I might be Tim Novak registered by the name Jokemon but am sure NOT....man I can only wish haha! If you know how many times I told him to post on m1 but he doesnt and I respect that. But sometimes I just have to show something just because I know I won't be the only one that would love to see that particular bait.

So if you were saying I am Tim; it's very funny. If I misinterpreted your remark; forget about this quote.

Now show me some new stuff to admire......

I was meaning "your" works as in the other bait makers that post here. I have tons of photos of everyones baits. I check them out all the time. As I said, I'm a huge fan of the genre. My interest in hand made baits lies mostly in the current ones not so much in the historical ones.

I just want to comment on the old baits of Novaks........those things are amazing! If Tim was making baits like that in the 70's it's no wonder he is able to do what he is today! Incredible. I will give you 100 dollars for that sucker right now......it's probably worth at least double that tho.

not to question anyone but is there any real proof those are from the 70s?

I don't think it really matters at this point now. I'd be happy to let this whole situation die. I said what I wanted, others said what they wanted in return and at the end of it all we are all in this business together.

I think all the carved baits are great but with the internet it's bound to happen. I've actually been doing the scaled look like the pic above but in a different way. Snax your baits are unreal.

MF is a great site and it is now easier than ever to learn how to make baits which is a good thing for new bait makers. Snax your popularity on this site was probley your undoing because of the great response to your baits. You'll get flys on your honey eventually when you get such a good response. If its a big deal I would not post as many pics for people to copy even though I like to see them. This is the place where everyone looks for ideas.

I remember awhile ago when making baits was a lot harder to learn. TU was the only site for info on bait building and Riverman jed was the only musky poster on the site. Trial and error was the only way to learn. Now you can just searh MF and in the matter of minutes learn how make quality baits. Its a great source for info.

I agree, I do not respect anyone who copies anothers bait, not sure if that happened here but I've seen it many times before. Create something new.

Muskie Slayer, thank you for your kind words. I have now learned that in the case of the Novak baits he had done that type of bait before me and very well as a matter of fact. I simply brought that style to the attention of the masses. He can indeed take credit for having done it long before I. It's too bad he never got to get the reaction they would have deserved. This whole situation ended up being an enormous miscommunication which hopefully has now been put to rest. To go public means to give up any exclusivity of your style. I don't like it but that 's something I'll just have to learn to live with. Fortunately, I do have art as another passion and that is a pure expression of the individuals style. I will get my personal need to be unique through that medium.

Snax, you make a great lure and even if there are 25 guys making similar versions your lures will still be popular. For ages lures have evolved based on angler experience, exchange with other builders, and the development of new building methods and materials.....new paints, epoxies, injection molding, etc. With the internet the rate of change has increased dramatically, in a second we now see photos of baits built in Sweden....that was impossible just 10 years ago.

Part of the fun of lurebuilding is trying to come up with something "different". Gliders have been around for ages so it was only natural that folks would start looking for something "new". First it was different shapes, different sizes, and most recently lips, fins, carved scales, etc. Who knows what will be next, only time will tell.

In the end it really doesn't matter if someone makes a lure that looks like yours. The only true "Snax" bait is one made by you. You make a great lure and there will always be a line of folks wanting them.

Thank you Jed, and the same holds true for you my friend.
