Posts: 330 Location: Pittsburgh, pa | I am going to buy a few new reels this year and was looking for some opinions on what you like. I throw suicks, bobbie baits and Wiley jerks. For my gliders I throw Hellhounds,Wabulls and hrs. Thanks for the info.

for the money you can't beat the Big Game 6500 CL at catfish connection Put a double paddled gator grip on it and you are good to go...5.3 to 1 $95 bucks...good reels http://catalog.catfishconnection.com/

Posts: 227 Location: New Brighton, MN | I just returned my defective Abu Garcia 6600 D5 to the manufacturer (no receipt, fingers crossed), and 2 days later I received in the mail a shiny new RCN60 Record series for no additional charge or shipping!!!! (a $99 reel exchanged for a $160 reel) I was amazed at their great customer service. It's good to know they stand behind their product... if not, they give you a free upgrade !! By the way, I love my record!

Posts: 8781 | Sled, I think most of the abu problems are due to misuse, and a lack of maintenance and proper lubrication. I like the C4 for jerkbaits myself, paired with a 6'-9"H St Croix. For me, the higher ratio allows me to get the right cadence, where you twitch the rod and crank once and your hand winds up in the same place every time. (I'm not explaining that well) If you're a palmer (I hold the grip) they don't feel as comfortable as say a millionaire or a calcutta would, but so far the 4 abu's I have are holding up better than my Cardiff and my Millionaire did. Ok, I have a small problem with the 7000, but that's because I used it to rip a bulldawg off a log instead of using one of the boat cleats... duh. The C4 is in its third season, and other than me (mistakenly) thinking it would be great for burning bucktails for the first month I had it (duh again) it's been great. We will never agree on brands of reels -- for every guy that loves reel X you'll find two who broke 6 of them in a week on LOTW... Joe, my suggestion is this: 1. Figure out what you want to spend 2. Buy the reel in that price range that feels the most comfortable 3. Buy either a high gear ratio reel (~6.3:1) or one with a fat spool that picks up a lot of line 4. ONLY use it for jerkbaits, walk the dog lures, applications where its function is picking up slack line and not reeling in heavy or hard pulling lures 5. Clean and lube it once in a while (i.e. take care of it) 6. Keep in mind that some guys will break every reel they buy and blame the reel again and again (not pointing fingers! ) Edited by esoxaddict 3/21/2007 3:53 PM
