Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Minn Kota Power Drive Problems

Has anyone ever had problems with the turning motors on M.K. trolling motors? Mine will not turn left when the power level is above 50% or so. It also sounds weaker than the right turn direction under no load. Is there two different motors in the housing or is some other part that causes this problem? Also is this problem easily fixed or do I need to go to the service center?

thanks

If you can borrow another foot control pad, do that, and see if it is corrected with the different pad. It usually is a problem there, not with the servos.

If not, get the motor to a service center; it probably is not something you would be able to fix easily.

You may want to hose the footpetal down. I had some problems with a little bit of sand inside the control. It worked fine afterwards.

Todd,

I just took mine in last week because I was having similar problems. Turned out to be the foot pad. They replaced it - no questions asked. That doesn't solve the underlying problem though - what is causing it? Minn Kota should do some checking into it. I have onlly owned Minn Kota with the micro touch foot pad. Had similar problems with each. Just had the foot pads replaced in each instance and I was good to go. I didn't try the hose. I will certainly keep that in mind the next time I run into difficulty.
