Subject: Lake of the woods

Hi to everyone, Great site.
My brother and a couple of buddies of mine are going to be in the Northwest angle area the first week of August. I have never fished this lake and want to get some pointers on where, bait selection, and anything else that might make this a great trip. Well I guess because the trip is free that should be enough, but i havent got a muskie in almost 8 years now and i am just looking for some advise.

Thanks in advance.

Jim, just got back from the angle a week ago. We had hot, sunny days for most of the week and fishing was a little harder, but we boated fish by dragging them out of the slop. When the clouds did finally come the muskies moved out to the edges of the slop, and also got active on the rock structures. In the slop we caught fish on Sledges, Bobbies and Rad Dogs. On the edges and on the rocks it was 10" Believers and Rad Dogs that worked. I'm not trying to sell baits here, just telling you what worked. I had the same 3 baits rigged most of the trip, so I guess DougJ's old adage of "it's not what you throw, it's where you throw" proved true again.

You might look into a guide for a day if you really want to learn the lake and the spots. Also, be careful! EJ
