Posts: 551 Location: Columbus, Georgia | After reading a post inquiring about the creation of a squirrely-tailed SS Shad, I contacted Kyle Marsanick of Smoker Tackle fame and was fortunate enough to get a hold of these new baits with custom show colors. I know that these baits are going to rock! Craig www.smokertackle.com Edited by cjrich 2/12/2007 8:22 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

I tried to tell Kyle not to mass produce them but after 2 1/2 yrs, and toooooooooooooo many requests to make them available to the public. They are right now availble at Thorne Bros in the US and Lundgrens in Sweden.Kyle's tring to keep up.And has NO thought of getting them made over-seas.Please bear with him. Posts: 392 Location: KY | What purpose does the leader between the hooks serve? Does it keep the rear hook off of the rubber tail? Thanks, Bruce

Posts: 32 | My thoughts about the squirrelly or rubber-tailed baits is that they ROCK!!! I prefer using them anytime I'm facing tough conditions...cold water...cold fronts...or an icy reception from Mr. Toothy. They've got a extra little appeal in the flash and wiggle of their tails, especially at slow speed. Most of the time I use the standard model SS Shads (and still haven't figured out why I got to watch Kyle the guru of Smoker Tackle boat fish on them for 2+ years on them before I, a member of his pro staff, even laid my hands on one I could call my own!!) Guess he's gone commercial, dude!! LOL ![]() Bottom line, I think they'll work anytime, but have that little extra mojo for when things get tough...come to think of it, I may throw them (the squirrellies) ALL the time--it is muskies we're after, right?? And the colors you got won't work. Terrible selection. Over the top. That's wrong. Send them to me, and I'll try to get them re-painted. Kyle's obviously gone too far. ('Specially the Blood Perch at the top. Mail it to me immediately.) They may work in lakes that never get fished... LMFAO!!! Watch out, muskies, there's a new bait in town!! Oh yeah, the hook hangers referred to help keep the hooks from tangling with one another...it's not an issue with the standard models, but since the guru Kyle had to move the back hook onto the belly, this prevents it tangling with the front hook and spoiling the cast. Contact him at [email protected] to get them for your other baits...they'll work with anything. He has different lengths available for a wide variety of lures, and the two best things about them are 1) they are cheap 2) they WORK!! Posts: 551 Location: Columbus, Georgia | Those hook hangers do look like they could assist quite a few different baits that are known from time-to-time to tangle. Good looking out Al. Craig

Posts: 128 | Awesome bait.. Tried and true. I would assume it's also a new thing with the hooks so they don't mess up the actual bait. Balsa and hook rash don't go hand in hand. Looks like a perfect cure to me.

Posts: 32 | Well, they'll still get a little seasoning rash...what I do for this or any tooth punctures, hook holes, or chips in the paint is as follows...get 5 minute epoxy...(comes in a double syringe tube @ Walmart) Let the bait dry well (may take a day or two if it was being used when you noticed the damage...balsa will really soak up water fast!!) Stir up a small batch of the 5 minute epoxy. Patch and cover the entire damaged area, taking care to thoroughly work the epoxy into any open pores or holes. Let hang for about 10-15 minutes, and it's ready to go back to work! This works with most other baits, too! Also, one of my favorite SS Shads (an old-style shad pattern) has very little paint left on it...Kyle has chewed my butt out a couple of times about 'the way it looks.' My response is that I don't give a flyin' flip...it works. Take it from me and the war is on! So HE doesn't think the bait looks good...the muskies DO! And I'm trying to hook them, NOT him!
