Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Booooooyah baby!!! My day has just been made! My wife and I had been planning to go to northern MN for our annual weeks vacation, but I lagged a bit in booking our usual cabin and we missed our opportunity. We found this out a couple weeks ago and have been a bit bummed out about it. Well, I got a phone call today from a friend whom my fishing partner met on Eagle Lake a few years back. Long story short, this dude owns an island and rented the cabin on it to us a couple different times. Boathouse island is out in the heart of Vermillion Bay, so you can imagine the type of water it is in. Well...Silver(Silver Hunt is his name) called me tonight from my friend Dons house, where he is spending the night between sport shows, and told me he not only has the island but officially has Waldhof Bay musky camp(I am sure you can fish for walleyes there too...hehehe). This resort is also in the same vacinity as the island(it is about 4 miles from Andy Myers or behind Sunset Island for those familiar with the area), and in some prime Musky water. While talking, he asked if I had plans for the summer yet, and I told him our situation. He said he still had cabins available for many of the weeks this summer. I told him that I doubted I'd be able to afford a Canadien trip, especially to Eagle Lake, this year. Well, he told me to check this years rate sheet, and get back to him. WOW!!!! $405.00 for a week at his resort is definately doable for us. I just about jumped out of my computer chair!!!!! I know this isn't dirt cheap, but I was expecting to pay alot more for a place in this area. Heck I might even be able to get my wife to go along with the American Plan and meals for these prices, then we can get just a few more precious hours of fishing in!! At any rate, I didn't mean to make this sound like an advertisement, but I know alot of people here had been asking about booking trips for Canada this year, and I just wanted to quickly get the word out on his place for those that may not have found a place to stay yet and are still looking to book this summer. Check out his website at the link below, and give him a ring. http://waldhofbay.com/ Edited by Reef Hawg 1/29/2007 9:55 PM

Posts: 2865 Location: Brookfield, WI | I know that Boathouse/Sunset Island and Waldorf Bay area well. We motored all around it at dusk our first day on Eagle last August trying to find our way back to AML. ![]() Wasn't my fault, I wanted to go back to the Gateway and start over. I made my obstinate buddy ask two kindly musky fishermen for directions. Kevin Thin and Crispy.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Cory, not exactly sure yet. We still want to get our mn cabin during the third week of august or whatever the non moon week is then(I don't have the calendar in front of me). If we absolutely cannot work it out, we'll make plans for Eagle the same week most likely. Donnie, I asked Silver when I stayed on Boathouse a couple years ago, if he was related to the Hunt who was part owner of AML, and he said that you were distant cousns of some sort but that you really didn't know each other all that well. He did mention towards the end of the week that you had quite a passion for the Muskies as we did when up there. We bought Silver a nice Musky rod and reel combo before heading up there, and took either he or one of his young boys out with us most every evening. they really enjoyed that. They got to realize our obsession, see some fish and see a couple nice ones in the net. The eldest Hunt son(Gale I think), got to see one of the top 5 fish I've ever seen, as it followed my Triple Take to the boat. He even had it come back on a spinnerbait which in turn spooked him into stopping his retrieve at the boat as the pig just lay there. It was on a neat reef guarding a bay in the west arm but I couldn't remember the name of the spot if someone asked. Other than the fact that my boat almost sunk at the dock one night in a bad storm, remembering that trip, really gets me fired up about going back. Edited by Reef Hawg 1/30/2007 9:08 PM

Reef Hawg, His first ever trip to Canada was at AML....he fell in love with it, that 6 years later he finally sold his ranch in Nebraska and bought a resort. He likes it up there...they're not fishin' folks per say, but have a desire to make your stay as nice as possible, and as inexpensive as possible. Always have your boat facing "bow to the west," when docking there. The wind can do some dastardly stuff! Have fun... Donnie ![]()
