I am new to this site and like it alot. I would like to know what you guys think of the statement "fish of 10,000 casts".

It certainly can seem like it on some days. But if you pay attention to a lot of the information on this message board relating to tactics, time of season etc, you should be able to reduce your cast to fish ratio significantly.

It all depends on where, when, how, and how much you fish. It doesn't have to be a fish of ten thousand casts. If you just started musky fishing you started right by checking out this board, alot of good information, is given out here. Take it from a guy who has been after these buggers for over 25 years, and has made almost every mistake, the reason why I say almost is because I will know I will make more mistakes, but that is the fun of musky fishing. If you need suggestions of where to go, this board will give you good advice, and I will throw in my two cents. Al[:praise:]

Not only can it be the fish of 10000 casts it can be the fish of 10000 trolling passes too. Put your time in, ask questions and learn and you can easily knock it down to 9500 or so fairly easily.[;)]

Naw, not 10,000. Maybe not even 8,000.

You're in the right place to reduce the number of casts, that's fore sure. Seems like some of the regulars on this board are truely gifted musky fishermen. Humbled me.

somedays it seems like it but I prefer to think of it as the fish of one cast. The cast in the right spot at the right time. The best advice I can give is keep a positive attitude and be open minded to new ideas.

When I look at my figures, I ran 3 or 4 guys in my boat ALL the time. If I used the figure of 3.5, and my records indicate we fished 11.4 hours per day, and the average number of casts is 60 per hour, with 34 days on the water, our total hours fished were 1368.5, with 82,110 total casts.

We had 43 fish in the boat for the year out of Eagle Lake, averaging 44.3 inches, so I am figuring we were at 1,909.5 casts per fish, or under 2 / 100ths casts per inch. If we would of been fishing some of the smaller pet lakes, it would drop drastically. It could be as little as 400 casts per fish, but I only track Eagle Lake numbers.

Sorry for rambling!

Donnie

Should never be 10,000 casts, there is always a way to catch a muskie...even a small one.

But if you are fishing clear, low numbers waters....you might be right.[;)]
