Location: On my favorite lake! | I am going to start looking for a New muskie boat between $12-15K. Is there one that is good for both big and small water in that price range? |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I have one for sale for around $18K. I know its a bit above what you're initially looking for, but for 2/3 of a year's use, and $3K more than you want to spend I can get you in my boat. Tuffy 1700, with a 90hp Suzuki 4stroke, 2 locators, GPS, wireless trolling motor, 8ft. rod locker....etc. etc....

Location: Athens, Ohio | You know, when I went new boat shopping in that price range, I didn't see much stuff that was any better than what Nitro makes. I ended up buying a used boat of much better quality. That was 5 years ago, so I can't say I know the market these days. But, just a suggestion, don't rule out a good used boat to stay within your price limits. m |

| When I was looking for a boat I wanted something more for smaller water and had a price range set that was a bit below that....primarily due to saving up money for an engagement ring at the time. That fell through and it put me in the 12-15k range. Found a used Lund Mr. Pike that really does the trick. Had it on everything from 90 acre potholes to Winnebago and it works just fine. If you keep your eyes open they are out there. Biggest thing to keep in mind though is whether or not you'll have a family in tow or are looking for something you can fish for other species with. No family for me but that thing has seen it's fair share of muskies as well as vertical jigging for perch, fishing the Wolf River sucker run, bullhead runs, and I've used it to set muskrat traps. |

Location: So. Illinois | It will be hard to find new that will handle large water within your price range. You should seriously consider used. There are allot of good boats out there to be had ifyou are patient. Below are a couple of adds from this forum that I have considered that are at or below your price range. | take a look at that skeeter tiller on this website .... if i were in your shoes with your budget guidelines, i'd try to get that boat into my garage as soon as possible. |

| I would think you could get into a very nice used Lund Angler 1700 or smaller Pro V tiller for that much....they are great boats. I sold a 95 last year for 8000 bucks and it was a great fishing rig...
I would look for a Lund personally in that price range if you want a tiller... |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would say you can get a really nice rig for that price that will do what you need.
I happen to have an alumacraft Navigator 165 which is wide (90 inch beam) and deep (36" bow depth). It takes a 90hp motor maximum and has plenty of room for a kicker.
Easy to rig electronics, and plenty of space for most of your stuff.
I've had mine in 4 foot waves with no problems...Anytime you get that big of waves, trying to stand and fish will be an issue in any boat, but I never felt I was in any trouble being in conditions such as this...
I picked up mine in 05 for 15K Motor was a 2 stroke, which is nice, and it is not that hard on the checkbook either.
You could also look at the classic 165 which is a bit narrower and is rated to 75 hp. Definitely a good rig as well with lots of space.
There's plenty out there that will do the job. keep looking and one will come your way.

| i got an 06 starcraft starfish for 17100 in the spring. u may be able to find new 06 for a little cheaper now.it is 16'6 with 89in beam. it came with a x125 a 24 volt 65 pound thrust minnkota all the batteries, 4 seats, and a 60 efi merc. goes about 31 with the 60. bunch of storage vinyl floors and .100 alum. in my i mainly fish ohio waters but had it at chataqua a few times and handles rough water ok. also it will move decent with a 9.9 if u fish lower horse power lakes. i looked at lunds and alumacrafts in the same price range and it is hard to beat this one

Location: Hayward, WI | If you are not dead set on buying new, there would be a LOT of nice used boats in that price range. I don't know a lot about fiberglass, but that tiller Skeeter for sale here does look nice. Otherwise, the Crestliner FishHawk, and the several models in the Alumacraft and Lund lines would be great. I like tiller boats, and a used 16 foot Alumacraft Navigator with a 60 4 stroke tiller should be easy to find for $12,000 or less.
Lots of 17 foot boats with 115 consoles out there for around $16,000 too. Stick with any big name manufacturer and you should be happy.
I almost forgot! There are usually quite a few Tuffy boats for sale on this site every year that look like nice boats. I'm sure some would be in your price range.

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | If you ARE dead set on buying new, Your local dealer will have last year's boats, and he is gonna want to move them NOW. By purchasing last year's (2005) hull this last spring, I got a 2006 motor and saved 4K, as opposed to buying a 2006.
With that having been said, Lori and I love our Fisher 170 Hawk. 51" Livewell, lots of storage, and if you buy last year's hull, you can get one for right around 15K, with a 90 Merc. |

| Thanks for all of your suggestions. I know everyone has a favorite. I have a old ranger now and love the stability of it. However the boat has very little rod locker space and it will not be a good boat to have kids on. |

| I've seen that model before. There is basically no place in the back for the guy in back to stand. It has really high sides and rides high out of water so it will catch alot of wind. They are more a walleye boat in my opinion but can be an ok boat for muskies. I'd look at alot of other boats before that one. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | For the price of that skeeter, though, I think you would be getting a heck of a deal. That boat looks to be in immaculate shape. And you'd be getting a 4 stroke motor as well which would be quiet. It definitely is not going to be any speed demon, but it will handle big water well, and in my opinion, there seems to be a nice platform to stand on back there. Unless you are a really huge guy, I think that spot back there would be fairly comfortable.
That skeeter intrigues me... It's still narrower than mine, but that to me seems to be laid out quite well. I also think with a little handy work, you could maybe create a little larger standing platform as well.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | Here's another vote for going used at that price point, especially if you are thinking of big water. Depending on how big of water you are considering and whether or not you like to troll you may want to consider a used bass boat. You get a ton of boat for the money in the used bass boat market. If you need a big water boat I would give some serious thought to trying to find a Ranger 690. If you look hard enough you can find one at the top of your price point. |

| It will be a stretch to find a 690 for 15k or less...if you did it would probably be a 97 or older...If you do find a steal on one, snag it ..but good luck ! Seems 690s are in high demand and sell very very fast....I did see a 692 recently for 17k.... |

| There are tons of decent used boat in that price range. Look for one 3-5 years old in decent shape if you're concerned about maintaining value. If you're concerned about getting the most boat for your money (i.e. you'll keep it a long time) get one 6-10 years old. |

| I would take a serious look at a boat that will get you away from the crowds, by fishing shallow rivers for muskies. That's what I'm doing this year in this jet boat which you can get for less than 14k and you're not buying something used. This model is 17' with a bottom width of 52". Real stable platform for multiple fishermen and I have used it on lakes around my home, one of which is over 2000 acres and it handles the waves just fine.

| Consider a used Lund Alaskan tiller... A friend got an older 18' a couple of years and ago and I picked up a used 20' in the fall.
