What kind of dye do you use? How is the process done?

I have seen dye like that in Bass Pro Shops catalogs, and maybe check....www.barlowstackle.com
You just dip it and it turns a color. Don't know how many times you have to dip it to get the desired results or how long it lasts.
Depending on the size of the blade, you can paint them. Bigger blades will take a couple of coats of primer/paint/sealer and still spin well. It's harder with smaller blades. Too much weight kills the spin.
You might have to prep them first by using some chemical to get the polished finish off before you dye them, or use steel wool. Hell, read the directions.
What color metalic exactly?
Blood Red? Flo. Red?
Have a picture?
I did some kandy purple blades for some bucktails that I made. I had to rough up the surface with some steel wool, spray on a clear base coat, then sprayed on the paint. When it was dry I had to spray on a klear that is made for kandys. It worked great. I did it to a # 7 heavy Indiana, and only sprayed one half of it. It would be the front of the blade I guess, I left the back face silver. They lasted a long time, but I never caught a fish on any of them....though I did catch a crib once, and it ate the whole lure.
Any thing is possible, and I have Blood Red Kandy, but no metalic reds.

You just dip the blade into the dye, and in 30-60 seconds its dry. Some guy will bake the blades (like with powder paint) to set the color.
Here are two brand that I know of:

Thanks guys, I'm looking to get that blood red look with the nickle still giving off its shine, not looking to paint them. Thanks again!

Just use a red magic marker. Heck of a lot easier and it stays on for quite a long time.

the troe proper way can be expensive. if you start with a chrome plated blade. wipe the blade with thinners. use candy red spraying thinly to desired hue. then clear with automotive 2 step clear like dupont 2500-s. then put in a lo-bake oven at 155 for 3-5 minutes. remove blades let cool. they will last for years.
