Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Hey guys great info in this thread. I am looking for more, if you have it. First a little background so you know my situation: I am trying to put together a trip it will include myself, my son, my dad, my brother-in-law and his son. The kids are 9 and 12. The plan is an all species trip. We where originally going to do a house boat, out of Sioux Narrows, as my dad and I have done that before and know some good areas up North of Yellow Girl Bay where they can catch perch, bass, and walleye, and I can catch musky. I don’t think the house boat thing is going to work and I have been given the green light to try and find us a cabin. I have been to Walsh’s twice and it is a great place, but I don’t think it will be the best for this type of trip. My dad and brother-in-law will be fishing out of smaller boats, plus I don’t think they will dig the border crossing issues that staying in the US and fishing in Canada causes. Pure musky with dedicated guys it’s a tough resort to beat and I will be back! Right now my number one choice is Youngs’ Wilderness Lodge in Stevens bay. I am thinking its remote location, yet easy access is a perfect combination. I am sure there will be lots of pike, bass and walleye in that area, plus I have easy access to some of my favorite Sabaskong spots, plus who knows there looks to be some good looking water right in the area of the resort. What do you guys, who spend a lot of time in Sabaskong think, is there a better choice as far as location and price. What would be a good second choice and third choice if Youngs’ doesn’t have availability? How about King Island, good location, reasonable rates? Also my cousin stayed at a resort out on Raspberry Island and liked it. But I would be a little more worried about the bigger water out in that area for the guys fishing out of the 16’ resort boats, but maybe the walleye is better out east. I am a little hesitant about right in the Nester Falls area because I think my dad wants to be a little more remote, plus it’s a much longer run to some of the musky areas I would like to be able to fish. Though I have never fished that far east and would probably find plenty of great spots in that 15 minute radius. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. By the way we are looking at a mid July through mid August time frame. How is the average bloom during that time in the shallower waters of the eastern bays? Thanks!!! Nail A Pig! Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I personally think the 2 places you brought up are exactly the right choice for a little more remoteness, better musky location, and you are still in waters that will be small enough to handle the 16 foot boat ( MOST of the time that is). Even though Nestor Falls is not a very large town, I just really do not like staying at a resort/lodge in a town when I go to Canada, besides the fishing and gas prices I like to get away!

I would try myliesplace in morison i have stayed at island resorts on lotw when i first started up there my kids were young like yours they didnt want to go back to canada after staying at a island for a week then i tried taking them there and they had more to do. mylies is in a good location for many portions of the lake including some of the places you mentioned. i can get to stevens on even strong nw windy days there are some big wave areas but not long areas of open water justin at the resort can give you the route i am thinking of. there is going to be trafficp where ever you go though but you can always find some areas to fish where not many people are around

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Thanks for the response and emails, right now the choice has come down to Hansens' King Island or Young’s. I think either of these places will serve our needs and they are very compedtivly priced. Man just studying the map trying to figure which place is best has gotten me all exited to return to my favorite Lake. I don’t care if you are fishing Sabaskong, The Angle, or the middle of nowhere (which by the way is awesome, to bad the houseboats have gotten two darn expensive), the Lake kick A$$. I have a streak to keep going, on each of the last three trips a 50+ incher has graced our presence. Have to keep that going, and we have never got two in one trip, came close 3 times but no cigar. A man has to have goals you know. Thanks again! Nail A Pig! Mike
