Who out there owns/uses the new e-cell batteries? What are your thoughts on them? All info greatly appreciated!

so far so good with mine...i have 8 with the charger...i have them in my headlamp, handheld gps and radar detector in the truck...those things eat alot of batteries so i like being able to use the ecells in them...

Mike,

Mine are on the way and I will use them for my radar detector in the truck and my Garmin portable GPS. I have had similar technology in the past and these new versions are much better and easier to use.

I've been using them for about 6-8 months and I like them very much.
Noticably longer battery life in electronics like cameras and games. I have a flashlight that uses 4 AAA in a circle, and it'll blind you even after the batteries have been in and idle for a month.
I think that is one other thing that I've noticed is that they don't lose their charge when they sit dormant for weeks, even months.
I know the life is longer just by judging how often I have to change them in my daughter's favorite games.
Thumbs up from me.

I've been using them in my digital camera since about June. My camera used to eat through a set of batteries in about 3 days even if I didn't turn the darn thing on. With Ecells I can get about a month in the camera if I don't use the camera very much which is HUGE increase in battery life over standard AA's.

I have been using them since early Summer and have had the same experience as Beav. Good product.

Shoreline Sports (see online banner on all OutdoorsFIRST sites) will have them and would be more than happy to ship whatever you might need.

I have been using them since april and can say they are pretty good in some things like flashlights and anything that does not require a high current draw. My flash for the camera or the small digital eat them up pretty quick. I can get twice the shots with the Enegizer 2300's. If you do not use a flash they last a long time but cannot handle the draw as well as the higher mah AA batteries.

I used E-cells against the exact batteries you mention in cameras, flash units, and other Hi drain applications and the E-cells kicked their fanny. In fact, I compared them to several brands, and didn't find any that stood up in my gear ( like Beav found in his daughter's double A powered toys) as well. It's high demand, high 'current draw' where the hydrogen fuel cells really shine, like the hot shoe flash for my Nikon. The E-cell provides exactly the same amperage (as in full) until completely discharged.

Not only that, I don't have to worry about overcharging, keeping the cells in 'banks', or the cells losing charge over long time storage.

I just bought an 8 bay charger and 8 E-cells and an Eco Charger for the car and house with 4. I'm using them in my grandkids toys, my GPS, my head lamps, and a set of 9 volt for my Frabill Arctic Sirens and will report back on how they hold up.

I'm with Troy on the rechargeable lithiums. The 2500's go forever in my digital camera and cost less than ecells.

Sams Club sells the big pack of Energizer rechargable NiMH fro $20. So far so good for me. Run them in my flash lights and GPS unit. Seem to work longer than regular throw away batteries.

How much do the lithiums cost? Do they outlast the E-cells with no amp drop as they discharge, can you leave them in the charger and forget them, is it recommended to mix and match different batches, is there a warning on the lithiums about overcharging, disposal and detonation, are they EPA approved as environmentally friendly?

The E-cells have lots of good feature/benefits, and they are an environmentally friendly product. The benefits outweigh other brands for me, and have since last spring, so I use them now exclusively. They have LOTS more coming. I am getting them the specs for underwater camera 12 volt applications, laptop back-up applications, and in the not too distant future, deep cycle applications for your boat will be ready to prototype.

Hydrogen Fuel cells are, IMHO, the way to head for the future. Use what you prefer, but keep an eye on these guys. You should be able to buy 8 of the E-cells in triple a or double a for about $20.

Here's a piece from a Lithium battery care sheet:
Simple Guidelines

* Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.

* Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.

* Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

* Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)

* Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.

* If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

Here's an E-cell sheet:
The E-cell Advantage:

* E-cells have no memory and charge back 100%.
* Direct drop-in replacement
* Made out of hydrogen and saline technology.
* They are non-explosive.
* Non-corrosive, great for saltwater and high tech environments.
* Worldwide Patented and Licensed technology
* Can be left in the charger for an indefinite period of time without worry
* All EPA approved and safe for disposal.
* Will save thousands of dollars in battery purchases.
* They are environmentally safe and have zero detriment to our environment.
* They reach their peak performance and continue to maintain that performance after the third charge.

Heat and cold do not effect E-cell storage or performance. Lithiums usually boast about 500 recharge cycles, E-cell, thousands. My observations....
