| If you don't stay on a chain, plan on hitting a few different ones.
Fishtrap/High
North/South Twin
Palmer/Tenderfoot
Lac Vieux Desert
If you can't pull a fish out of one of those, every Musky in Vilas has died.
Chains to consider.....

| A few bodies of water come to mind but like the previous poster said, you are in the heart of musky country. Plan on hitting a few different lakes if you have a full week.
Mantowish Chain
Big St Germain
Three Lakes Chain
Minocqua Chain
Tons of water and good choices. |

| If you don't plan on staying on one body of water, staying mobile can be a great option.
I've done it in several places, and would fish a different lake every day, or if I found action, I would work 2 or 3 lakes a day.
One opening weekend it was in the 70's and flat calm for 5 days. I gave up on the skis after 2 days when I pounded over 20 nice smallies on one lake when they started hitting small bucktails. I went to Eagle River and bought 5 Hot Spot maps and caught over 300 smallies in the rest of the week. The muskie gear stayed in the house. I picked 5 good smallie lakes, never fished deeper than 6 feet and caught over 50 fish a day....sometimes all on the same lake. I wish that I would have had a camera man with me.
Where was I? Oh yeah, find a location and draw a 30 mile radius around it and see how many lakes are in that circle. Even if you do stay on one lake, don't limit yourself to that lake. Use it for a base camp. Unless this is a family vacation, then find a place near to some family activities. Even though your wife might tell you that she doesn't mind watching the kids while you are out fishing, don't believe her. She's just doing what she would do at home in a different location, and she'll remind you of it 5 years later.

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | All of the lakes mentioned above are great, also the comment of staying mobile. HUGE key to fishing up here.
