| I was fishing the other day with a twitchbait when the reel made a clicking noise and the levelwind wouldn't move for a couple handle turns. Then it would start working again and then it would happen again. I looked at the reel and the worm gear that moves the levelwind had a groove in it that was supposed to be there. I tried to take the reel apart but I don't know how to get the bad worm gear out. I am going to try and order a new part but how do I get the old one out and the new one in? Does anyone know why it happened? Did I do something wrong or did the part just wear out? Help |

| At the bottom of the line guide? There is a cap screw that holds a pin that rides in the worm gear. This pin can wear out over time, I just replaced one this spring, it sounds like it might be your problem.

| nope, not the pin the track that the pin travels in has a groove that is not supposed to be there in it and the pin get caught in the groove while I'm fishing. |

| I had to replace a worm gear this year also, the reel was new this spring so I got the part under warranty. Inside the side plate on the opposite side as the crank there is a thin metal clip sort of crescent shaped that holds the worm gear and its housing in place. you will need to remove the line guide as Will described also. Then its just a matter of sliding the old worm out and the new in- pretty foolproof (as all Abu machinery is). My problem resulted from bending one of the tips in the worm gear track causing the same problem you have. It happens when some thing restricts the movement of the line guide while still being cranked- although I couldn''t ever actually remember it happening when mine failed. Good luck |

| Forget the crap about fixing it yourself....send it back to Garcia, their Customer Service is amazing. You'll probably have your reel back in a week, if not a little more than that. I've always had them fix stuff or replace it for me whenever I have a problem, so has my buddy Boro (love ya man). Go to their website for the address.

| If you're from the Madison area, I will be trying a new repair place off School Rd. called John's Reel Repair. Came recommended from this board earlier. Supposed to do good work and fast.
Going to drop mine tonight. Will let you know how it goes.
Good Luck and Be Safe.
