I am either buying/rigging a new boat this winter or putting new electronics in my current boat. I will buy Lowrance mapping/sonar units. I am going to put one in the bow and one at the console. I am used to carrying my handheld GPS from bow to helm thus having all of my waypoints at both stations. Finally to the question.

With the Lowrance network cable,

1) will I need to but a mapping chip for each unit or will they share info?
2) which chip is best for Indiana?
3) will each unit need its own GPS puck or can they share one?
4) when I mark a waypoint on one unit, can I see it on the other one?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

1) If you by current models and use the network cable they will be able to use the same chip and share info.
2) Sorry cant help you there.
3) Two current models can now use the same gps module.
4) Yes. thats part of what the whole networking concept is all about.

I have an LCX26cHD and love it!!! I too am looking for a new boat and will network two units together when I get it.

I am not sure if you are able to use the same chip. I have a 27c and a 337c networked together and they each need a separate chip. I discussed this with lowrance and they told me that each unit would need one. Unless they have changed something since last spring you will probably need two chips. If it is networked right it will share the waypoints with both units

Each unit needs it's own chip.

As for a unit I have a new 522iGPS and love it. I bought some extra stuff for it to make it into a portable unit for Canada and ice fishing. This unit is a great console unit. I just need a big boy now for the bow.

I ahve a Lakemaster chip and like it a lot for MN. They ahve a good site you can get all the lakes covered in your area with some screen shots.
