| I have some original Le Lure's with spreader bar's on them and I have mixed emotions about them, I think you hook more fish (and thumbs) but I have seen them be pretty brutal on the fish.
Who of you like spreader bar's or dislike them on your surface baits? |

| I love them. I hook more fish that blow up and hit short. Never had a problem with hooking them too bad. I love my Creepers, and Globes with spreaders. My friend who used to make Rylures, always used spreaders on creepers and Globes, and I'm glad he did. |

I have mixed feelings about spreaders on surface baits. I've used the old LeLure Globes, Thumpers, and Creepers with them, and I've used RyLure Globes and Creepers with them.
Spreaders do boost your hooking percentages, especially with oversized surface baits. However, spreaders do more damage to the muskies, in many cases. Many times, one of the hooks on the spreader will be in the corner of the musky's mouth, and the other hook will end up in an eye. And when a fish caught on a bait with spreaders rolls in the net, you've got a real mess.
Though they help with hooking, I've quit using spreaders due to the possibility of injuring muskies.

I have a LeLure with spreaders also and I have done excellent at night with it. Night fishing is where I think spreaders come in handy. The short hitters seem to end up getting hooked on the spreaders.
Dave brings up an excellent point that everyone should think about. The spreaders could be dangerous to the fish as well as yourself. I personally haven't had any problems yet but there is the potential for it to happen.
You could always take the spreaders off and replace the middle hook. Let me know if you need someone to take those LeLures off your hands (LOL). |

| I to love spreaders. I will make changes to a bait if the spreader wire is too long, the long wire can lead to some of the problems that Dave brought up. I try to keep the hooks from getting too far outside the bait. It doesn't eliminate all the problems, but it does help keep them to a minimum. I will not use any type of flaptail bait without a spreader off the back as fish seem to hit that bait short more than most. It really ups the odds.
It is no secret that Steve W. loves flaptails. Ever use any with spreaders Steve? |

| Good point Joel. I too have Ryan shorten up the spreaders a bit from their origional "Frenchie Like" length. It still helps in hooking more fish, especially at night as mentioned above, and cuts down on outside of mouth hooking. |

I add a stinger that is about 4" below, and 2" behind the bait with a single small treble on .050 wire. The fish that get stuck on the stinger usually stay stuck, and rarely does the fish foul in the other hooks. There is a thread on the site with pictures of how I did that. |
