Location: Burton, Ohio | Batman, I have been doing the enamel over the devcon. I haven't used the spray cans yet. I have done it both ways. Primer and no primer. I have started doing it with paint only. I have been sanding the first coat of devcon before the paint coat. I think those micro scratches help with the holding. I am talking like 300 grit or finer. You might even have to wet sand it to reduce clogging of the paper. I have mixed fellings about sanding the over coats. It starts to cload the finish slightly. The BIGGEST thing is having that paint be completely dry. It may feel dry to the touch but it really needs to dry for at least 24 hrs in my opion. The best example that I can give you is when you have a ring on and you get something like lacquer thinner between your ring and your skin. The stuff is trapped with nowhere to go. A couple of weeks ago I painted a lure and was so excited about clear coating it. It was dry to the touch so I clearcoated it. The next day I way so happy. The finish was hard and I was pleased. Over the next 2 weeks I noticed that is was getting soft. Eventually I pealed it like a orange right down to the bare wood. Good luck! |
