Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Going Barbless

Message Subject: Going Barbless

I just read the article Going Barbless
by Brett Erickson, on muskies101.com. I thought it was interesting, and was wondering who else fishes barbless? Who has tried it and gone back to barbs?

Thanks,
MJB

I think this is useful when you guys have "trouble" with small pike. Quick release, the fish don't have to leave the water. I do it on small lures because smaller fish are less likely to be damaged by the barbs this way. Though, I feel on largher lures they throw the hooks faster. It's my experience but I'm sure somebody else can say something different!

I've gone barbless when nitecrawler fishing for trout and I can't tell you how many it has saved. Honestly, I only feel that I've lost a very few by doing so also. Ya just have to keep the line tight.
