Our friend Michael sent me these pictures using a sail bobber to sail the live or dead bait out to the fish. Neat idea!

This method seems to work, too!

Larry Dahlberg did a show on Mille Lacs using the same thing for muskies. CRUSHED 'em.

that looks different than the salt-water style sail-fishing that Dahlberg did. his rig was designed to keep the sucker moving along in-and-out of the water while trolling.
the set-up rigged above seems designed to "sail" the bait further out away from shore or boat than the fisherman would be able to cast and/or move the bait around with the wind.
one question: what kind of hook system are they using for those pike in europe? does that sail/bobber negatively impact hook-setting if using quick-strike rigs? especially when setting the hook at long range?

down at Montello wisconsin I have seen guys use remote controlled boats to run there catfish bait out into the river. Can't cast well enough to get bait where they want it so they put the bait on the boat and run boat to desired spot and then pull bait off the boat and bring boat back to shore.

A single treble or a single with a slider, set the hook as soon as you get the hit. Like a Tip-up, I guess.

They use a lot of 2 hook quick strike rigs like the one in the picture. All the pike rigs i have seen on the boards over there use trebbles they hate to kill pike.

hi people.
sail bobber, are quite common here in the Eu.
expecially on small "no boat" lake, or from the banks in big lakes with good wind that let the bait drift.
You have to leave a lot of line out to present the bait better, and so, before setting the hooks, you have to reel fast, very fast all the slack line, otherwise the fish will swallow all the rig, and it's not fun ...
I tried this sistem only a couple of times, with encouraging result (I am no more a livebait fisherman) I think the best way is to use floating lines, if not, in case the wind decrease, the weight of the line will force the bobber to return to the boat/bank.
Its a very effective sistem also with deadbait, drifted jus over the bottom, a friend of mine lost a superfish on a drifted deadmackarel.

I hope you understand my "english"...

As I said to Steve, its very usefull here, where livebait is not allowed. Not only does it transport the bait out on the lake, it also makes the deadbait wiggle beneath.
Its not me on the pictures, or behind the camera btw.
