Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The wind and rain greeted 74 teams this morning on Cass and Leech lakes near Walker and the Town of Cass Lake, Minnesota. Winds topped out at 25 MPH in temperatures this morning in the 40's. By late afternoon, things had improved with cloudy skies, less wind and temps near 60. Minnesota Muskie Trail Executive Director Paul Hartman said in an evening phone interview he exects the weather will be much better tomorrow, and the fishing too. Here are the teams entered in the event as of the last time they could access the internet, we will update this list and add the Leader Board when we can be sure it is complete. Standings are posted as well. 16 fish were caught, the largest by team 15, a 50" big girl from Cass. Interestingly, the fish over 42" were all from Cass today. The second place team has a double, a 40 and a 41, both from Leech. 2006 Cass/Leech Muskie Tournament Team Participant Participant Fri Sat Sun Board 1 Mark Meritt Craig Berryhill Sat: 40" and 41" Sun. 40.5 2 Mark Kegler Jason Hauser Sat: 41.5 3 Lance Christensen Luke Christensen Sat: 46 4 Rick Rosar Jeff Chastek 5 Clay Fletcher Mike Cornwall 6 Robert Houck Bill Houck 7 Allen Pederson Rick Pederson 8 Mike Dolezal Kyle Johnson 9 Josh Borovsky Troy Zuelzke 10 Ben Olsen Ryan Carlisle 11 Dave Orgon Pat Cotter Sat: 46.5 Sun: 42 12 Ron Sanders Bruce Sanders Sat: 46.5 Sun: 41.5 13 Chris Thury Don Farrell Sun 45 14 Mike Daly Virg Harrison 15 Kelly Juelson Ryan Klein Sat: 50" 16 Corey Karren Kent Banks Sat: 46.5 17 Chad Bullock Joe Mammosser Sat: 46.5 18 Matt Olson Doug Malsom Sun: 43.5 19 Daryl Krogman Don R. Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Eleven more Muskies were added to the totals today from Cass and Leech Lakes in Northern Minnesota at the Minnesota Muskie Trail Tournament. Cass Lake put the bigger fish in the boat for this one, with a 51 ( Stawski and Stawski) and a 53.5(Capouch and Capouch) caught today. Stawski and Stawski won the event with a two fish day today, by putting a 51 and a 41 in the boat. MuskieFIRST will have a full photo album and report tomorrow morning first thing, and will update the standings at that time.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Thanks for the report. Anyone care to share patterns? Reed bite on? Top? Spinners? Was Pike bay part of the tourney?

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Jason, Paul reported that fish were caught on surface lures, spinnerbaits, bulldawgs, gliders and cranks. He said the patterns were so mixed that no one single technique stood out. Attachments ---------------- 15 - Kelly.JPG (56KB - 350 downloads) 49 - Rick.JPG (95KB - 446 downloads)

Posts: 51 | Yes, Pike Bay was in the Tournament and had about 8 boats on it per day with a couple fish coming from there. In my observations for the week/weekend was that the shallow (reed/flats/rock) bite was not near as good as usual for this time of the year. There were a few agressive fish in the shallows but we saw considerably fewer than usual. CONGATULATIONS to Ray and Rick Stawski !! We've gotten to visit with them a bit at each tournament this summer and they are great guys that are great anglers and were rewarded for the extra time that they put in prefishing. Way to go guys ! and Good Luck at Tonka next month. -Clay Fletcher (Team Iowa)

Rick is definitely a great guy ... he's not a half-bad gun dog trainer, either. I picked up my retriever from Rick's place last week before he left for the tourney. I guess the strategy he was talking to me about worked! John P.S. I highly recommend Rick as a gun dog trainer: http://www.finelineretrievers.com

Congratulations to Rick and Ray! Ray, I hope your feeling better and remember to give me a call. Looking forward to fall fishing and also trying the new bucktail! Looks like an awsome bait! Sincerely, Chuck Laitinen
