My go-to Fall bait is a crappie pattern 6" Reef Hawg that I custom weighted. I've had more than one multiple fish day with it. I'm sure you'll get lots of different replies. Most will say to go large too.

Posts: 128 Location: ontario canada - Well Anderson Indiana now | Go with Bucktails and burn them in. I prefer suicks, if you can learn to use them you'll get plenty of action on them.

Posts: 2024 | Help us help you. Where are you fishing? A lot depends on location. For a while now you're probably going to find a fair amount of fish up shallow on most lakes, not all. This time of year I absolutely love twitching cranks (Super Shad Raps, Cranes, Big Games, etc) up shallow. This is a technique that can be applied from KY to Canada, from rocks to wood. Don't rule out the topwater bite either, pick something you can cover water with (Top Raider, Chopper, Pacemaker, whatever tailbait suits your fancy) and probably something slow to compliment the fast baits with (Hoodini, Hawg Wobbler, etc).

Posts: 462 Location: Madison Wi. Chain | If you are fishing Millfoil, topwater, topwater and topwater. Maybe a spinner bait worked through the weeds as well. BG

Milfoil can be worked just as well on the edge with a crank, bulldawg, big bucktail...topwater for me in Madison has really slowed down...right now the best baits for me would be mag dawgs, spinnerbaits, big bucktails, and suckers!

Right now, with water temps still in the 60's and pre-turnover you can't beat a prop-style topwater. Buldging spinner baits and bucktails will work too.

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Now down here is bucktails, spinner baits and top water. Soon will be Suicks, Gliders-Undertakers, Reef hawgs, HR's, etc., and rubber baits. Twitch baits are always good in the early fall. Most of all SUCKERS !!! I will have a Undertaker on one rod, a Suick on another rod and a Bull Dawg or some other rubber bait on the other. I will also always run a sucker or two since lakes around here are NOT "CLASS A" muskie lakes and trolling is legal.

Big Joe's are always a good bet this time of year, along with the BIG double bladed bucktails. Grandmas & Depthraiders are timely depending on conditions.
