I've got the itch, especially after seeing Chad Cain's pic on the front page. Wondering, how far I would have to travel (from the Twin Cities) to find open water to fish for muskies, legally?

I've been tempted to head down to Pool 4 on the Mississippi for some open water, but I don't know about muskies there (is there a fishable population; is it legal to fish for them now?) I could always go there for walleyes but would rather fish for skis,of course.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Bill

Carbondale IL is where Lake Kinkaid is. About 1hr south of St.louis in IL. I would say 6 to 7 hrs from the Twin cites. Its 7 from Milwaukee. I have been there twice.

Very nice water, kinda like Canada.

Other lakes open, Shebyville IL and Cave Run KY

Lake Carlton in north Illinois has open water, I'm guessing other north Illinois lakes have open water.
