Location: Northern Wisconsin
if i am going to use .051 thick wire should i buy clevises with hole diameters of .051 or should i go
up to the next size of .066 for room to spin? any tips would help.

go up and use the best clevis you can find

Yes go up. Same size hole will work but bigger is better.

The bigger clevis won't go through the hole on most blades. I have some of those bigger ones and they only work with my #8 fluted blades and my #10 Colorados.

I have been using .045 wire for years and have never had a problem with it.

This is true on the clevis. You can drill the hole in the blade bigger though. You can also use a smaller folded clevis, they have bigger holes as well.

A folding clevis (like Mepps use) is better as it doesn't distort like the solid ones can and so always spins freely.
