I am looking at a 1982 Tuffy Rampage, 17.5' with a 1985 50 hp Mariner tiller. I know it is dinasour but I THINK the price is right at $2300. I was just feeling around for overall impressions with the rig. Worth the asking price or not. How is the stability, rough water cababilities and so forth. I didn't take my tape measure with so I didn't get the beam measurement if anyone knows that off hand that would be great.

Chad,
I had a '88 Tuffy Rampage with a 50 Merc. It was a good stable ride. Nice boat with a modified V which helped in bigger water. Looks like a good price to me. I can't remember the beam, but I'm sure I have the information around here somewhere. I'll PM if I can find it.

I recently sold my 83 Rampage with a 1995 40 h.p Yamaha and Kdee Launcher trailer for $2500. I think your price you paid is real good. I've had a Marauder and an esox magnum previously, but the Rampage is in my opinion the boat to have. The beam should be roughly 75 inches. The stability is very good and handles any water that you will want to withstand or fish in. After selling my old Rampage, I bought another one!

The Rampage was a great boat. You are either looking at a 180XT or a 160XT if the boat is a tiller. The 180 was an 18' model and the 160 a 16' model. The 180XT was rated for 60 HP max tiller, and the 160 50 HP.

Make sure the floors and decks are solid, and you'll have a very nice fishing boat.

17.5 would be the Rampage 180XT I would think as my 160XT is about 16'3. A 50 tiller may be a bit low on the power, but will get you around decently.. It has a Sponsoned v-hull, which I feel gives it a good ride... not sure if the 180 would have a wider beam or not compared to the 160, but Hermit is right, the 160's about 75".. I have had mine in some rough water and have no problems with it... One thing to check is the floor and deck, as it has a wood floor with a fiberglass coating over it it can eventually get wood rot if it does not have it already.. The Price seems decent otherwise

Thanks for the replies been lots of help. Floors and deck seem pretty solid. So hopefully I can get it within the next week.

Chad,

I have an '89 Rampage 180XT - with an '02 50h 4 stroke. It is a great boat. If the one you are looking at is in decent shape, I recommend you go for it.
Its very versatile (good on all but the biggest water). It's stable, and has a lot of open space for figure 8's and running the boat. I think it has an 85" Beam - I have had it out in some pretty rough water, you may get wet, but overall she handles it well.

Add a back platform and you are in business.

Good luck.

That back deck is about what I had in mind, we will have to put it in though. Nice to see the picture, gives me a better perspective before starting.
