Year four for me at Andy Myers Lodge http://www.andymyerslodge.com is now in the books, and I can honestly say that the experience is better and better every year. The staff is first rate and dedicated to each guest having a comfortable, safe and fish filled experience while at Andy Myers. Steve and his staff do everything they can for everyone there to make sure they are on the water, on hot patterns and geting in the places you need to be to be boating muskies, walleyes, bass, or pike. The guide staff has no secrets patterns or spots that arent shared with each guest, and nearly every night Steve was up in the lodge to share what he and his guides had done, and how they were doing it. With only a week to figure out what you need to do to boat muskies or walleyes, all the staff's assistance does everything but put the fish in the boat for you. Another HUGE thanks goes out to the dock staff, for not only doing everything they could to get my sick boat on the water, but for making sure the upgraded boat we used Monday-Friday was always gassed up, charged up, and ready to roll. Fish fry on Wed was almost good enough to make me want to spend some time walleye fishing....

As for the fishing, it seems as though the 54" limit on muskies is making a big impact on both numbers and size in Eagle Lake. Though we only boated 4 fish, a large number of large fish were caught during the week we were there. My biggest was a 48"er, my wife Nikki got her personal best at 40", I lost a fish that might have been 49" or as large as 54"....only had her on for about 10 seconds after she ate a Muskie Mojo XX bucktail. Another fish came up to say hello 4X on a weagle that might have been 51, might have been 54, but her back looked around a foot across. The thing that really impressed though was that we saw fish of all sizes, from low thirties to the shamu range, which tells me the future fishing on Eagle is only going to get better and better.

Thanks again to Steve and the staff, and I'll be calling in the next few weeks to schedule for 2007!

*and to any of those interested in hearing more about the camp (without too much bias), the fishing, the lodging, etc. please feel free to contact me directly via email or phone.

Herbies is alway a blast, miss not being there for a few years and look forward to my return trip to play with some of those big girls. It is a first class lodge, with world class service that is second to none.

Does anyone that goes to Andy Meyers go down south to fish Osbourne? Or do they just fish up north? I went to Century Lodge a few years back and did well but would like to try AML sometime but was wondering if the drive to fish south is too long as I would probably at least want to spend a day or to fishing the southern end. I fish leech and go all around that lake and it's bigger than Eagle but its also wide open.

so much good water that you would pass on the way to osborne i think they stick to other parts of the lake.....ive been guided down to the south east portion of the lake but never gone as far as osborne bay and it took us 45 minutes to get down there.... going to aml is unlike any other fishing trip or vacation...its like going to musky school for a week...if you go there with a open mind and listen and do what they advise you to do, chances are you will come away very satisfied...herbie and his staff run a top notch camp second to none!!!

Andy Myer's Lodge is a muskie anglers dream camp. Steve and his staff have two goals, making your vacation as comfortable as they can, and putting you on fish. It is a muskie camp to the true sense of the word. The lodge is also on the shores of one of the true trophy lakes in Canada.

Good luck, Murph

I have gone with Herbie to fish Colemans...probably about 30 minute drive at 30 mph. There are some big pigs down there. I will say that Herbie just nailed a very nice 53" pig not more than 10 minutes from camp last Friday. The big girls are everywhere!

What is the Vermilion Bay area like in terms of hazards? Was up at another lodge on Eagle a few weeks back and fished the southeast section near Boulder Bay and couldn't believe all the hazards out there. Too many to mark on the GPS and came back with a bashed up skeg.

The lodge we stayed at was fine and the people were great but they were obviously geared more towards the walleye fisherman. Hired a guide the first day and ran 17 miles to the first spot we fished. Saw some big fish and had a great time but have bever been so relieved to put the boat back on the trailer in one piece!! Won't be in a big hurry to go back to that section of the lake, that's for sure.

the way i understand it marking the hazards is left up to the resort owners...everything up near myers bay, v bay and west and somewhat south has always been marked very well up on the north end of the lake.

Bantom I have heard that some of the guides in that area of the lake remove the buoys.

I was up at Century Lodge earlier in the year and they were very helpful showing me all of the Hazards in Osbourn and Niven....pretty easy to get around...never went North of Osbourne though.

The hazards are well marked around AML! Most have a steel rod topped off with a jug sticking about 4 feet out of the water. Yes, I agree that South and East the hazards are not marked and can be very treacherous...just be careful in those areas and take your time!

A few faces some of you might recognize.....the Olsons who had a super hot Sunday with 3 nice fish.....Herbie and Travis Richardson who popped two 50s within 15 minutes of each other....Rob Manthei with a fat 45". All these fish, and more were caught the week of August 4th - 11th.

And, the pic of the gentleman (whose name I don't recall) standing in between the dual windshields, this fish was caught within eyesight of the camp.

Wow. All impressive fish. Nice work BigO and MediumO.

Seems like a guy with a lucky haircut might have a decent chance to catch a really nice fish or two while staying at AML.

Geez, the fish need to join overeaters anonymous. Body condition looks like lake winter on a shad lake.

tough nut to crack?
you are hearing sories from the old days or arm chair internet geniuses. this year mike had a 28 day stretch with fish in the boat to 54".
i've had 5 3 fish days and a 5 fish day to 53" fishing only periodically and not really being able to stay up on daily patterns..
donnie consistantly boats 5-12 fish per trip. last season the koeshalls had an 18 fish week with 6 over 50".
lets face it any lake the size of eagle can be intimidating and tough to figure out in a one time trip.
what i see is everyone running for the pot of gold everytime a new article or internet story comes out and yes to not hit lakes that are peaking as is the case in minn right now is a mistake cause peaks like that don't happen often. but.. if you pick a lake that has in it what you're looking for and spend the time to learn it intimatly you'll do ok when it 's a tough weather pattern week and kick @#$% when things are right. definatly there are easier lakes but....

Herbie, I hear ya, man. Eagle and the Goon are not always forgiving or easy, but they ARE true trophy destinations and pretty incredible Muskie destinations in general as is shown by Slamr's recent album, kicking out REAL 50# class fish every year. I'm on for a trip to Eagle next year August since I can't get you to visit on the Goon in July.

Maybe if I left a trail of brownies from Eagle to the Goon.....
