| i'm not sure what those guys are using, but i've used Rod Wrap on one of my rigs this year.
i found no real difference between the grip of this material and good clean cork (under all conditions).
however, i did really like the added size it gave to the rod handle circumference.
it has stayed in place just fine under heavy use, with no slipping or peeling off - i did reinforce the end by wrapping them with electrical tape.

Location: Gurnee, Illinois | Bass Pro in Gurnee is blowing out their rod wraps at $3.77 each. I think normal price was around $9. I wrapped a few of mine, seems to give a little better grip, and you can color coordinate your different rods.

| RodWrap is not tape, it wraps on like an ace bandage it's easy to take it off to switch reels. I like the great grip & feel, I see Pete Maina has it on his rods now. |

you can easily cut this stuff and it still works, so don't be afraid of getting one oversized and trimming to fit.

Location: Apple Valley | I use Rod wraps on all my muskie, walleye, and panfish rods. There great in rainy weather.
You also can get different colors.

| Feeling is believing! I have bad hand problems and this stuff makes holding on to the rod sooooooo much easier when casting or battling a fish. Everybody I have turned on to it can't fish without it anymore. It's addictive! |

Steve Brown from Better Ways just called and told me about this thread, asking me to chime in, since I've been using them for a while now.
I see that Lambeau provided quite a bit of info on them. (Thanks)
We do have them at the Esox Angler magazine for order and in the store in Hayward ... for those who happen to be in the area, if you have a chance to stop in, I've got a wrapped rod and reel in there to look at, just so you can get an idea of how it's properly wrapped and what it feels like.
I like 'em. One of those things you start using ... it's not immediately dramatic ... but you don't really want to go w/o after trying. The basics are: I believe they help the grip. I'm not even certain exactly how to decribe it; possibly it's the softer feel (and it is stickier too, though that can wear off with a little fish slime/sunscreen ... they do offer a grip wax that revitalizes that) and a little more bulk, but basically it results in less effort gripping. Like a dialed-in rod balance system, you notice it after the hours set in. It also seats the reel in rock solid (none of wiggly slop). Another thing I like is quick-glance sorting. I know many of you, like me, keep different action rods pre-rigged with lures (for cast-back or just a quick switch). I know what's 8' 6", 8' & 7' 6" with a glance.
Give 'em a try.

| Geeezzz.......... I go to Walmart and buy Tennis raquet (sp) wrap. Cheap and lasts longer than the stuff made for rods! Might be hadr to find this time of year tho............

| Just checked in here quick to see if any further questions. Yeah, I guess hockey tape might work ... I'm guessing not the same soft feel, but to be honest never tried it.
Just FYI (I just assumed folks know what I meant in previous post, and likely all do, but to clarify) ... that I use the different colors to color-code my rods by length/action. |

| Looking at the instructions on the website for putting the stuff on. You have to remove the tape to take a reel off the rod? What about putting some on the butt and another seperate piece on the foregrip, or will it peel off? Anybody ever try the stuff they use on tennis rackets? |

| i did exactly what you're asking about, i put it on in two pieces - one above the reel and one below.
works just fine like that. |

| Lambeau, did the stuff make a big difference in the diameter of the handle? I'd like to use something to make the diameter feel larger. I have grown used to the large handles on my custom rods and wanted something to beef up the handles on some stock rods. |
