Subject: Kly Auction Muskies!!!

Location: Contrarian Island
This past winter I was high bidder on one of the Kly Auctions and I got 2 days with Mike Hulbert up in Minny...he extended it to 3 days cuz he likes me so much, haha ....
anyway, Sled and I hit Minny on sat. evening not expecting to fish until sunday...well Mike had sat nite open and we headed out at 7pm...Mikes roommate Kevin Cochran was also free and offered to take Sled w/ him...
we fished on and off sat. nite thru wed. morning ...mainly early early morning, nap/rest all day then back out in the evening because of the heat...
Sat nite Sled and I both got on the board ..I got a 49.75"er, yes I said .75" to eat on the figure 8 after dark ....and Sled got a 45.5" to eat as well....
Over the next few days we moved quite a few fish some over the magical 50 mark and we able to convert some...I got a 42"and Sled "stole" a 41.5" from me and got a 42" I believe as well...
Hulbert boated 3 as well from 43.5" to 48.5" and Kevin had some shots as well...

Anyone looking to fish the Bemidji area should definitely fish with Mike or Kevin...Kevin is now guiding the area lakes and knows how to put even fishermen like Sled on fish!! j/k Sled..fish stealer!

Kevins # is 507-456-9023 and Mike can be reached off his website...mikehulbert.com

Thanks a million to Mike and Kevin...you guys did way more than we expected or could ask for to put us on nice fish!

here are a few of the ski's...

I now know why Sleds license plate is "FYGUR8".......

just got in the driveway and already working on a plan a way to get back in the boat with kevin and mike. these guys both spend a ton of time on the water in their area and know it well. both work their tails off to get you fish and won't waste your time. .

i learned that you can learn to love a bucktail even though it may hurt after 4 days of burning them, you should throw them at night and an accelerated retrieve is key to triggering as is a hot L ... also learned that i am old and it's getting harder and harder to keep up with these guys and that biting your tongue doesn't work with nelson ... just give him both barrels .... these guys are that good and have a lot to teach if you're willing to learn.

at the end of the day if you want to fish the bemidji area lakes you will be wise to hire one of these two guys.

i moved a big fish on the morning that we left that brad graciously stayed away from .... we didn't catch her, but got the call from jonesi's boat last night that mike boated the 49" that we left behind .... COOL

Sled I'm not sure what kind of weed Kevin was letting you smoke but I threw "that bait" about 50% of the time...what did my 49.75"er eat...
GOOD thing we have Kevin and Mike as witnesses to your BS.

Bring hip waders if you fish with Sled...the poop gets pretty deep ....

the turtle was a legit 70 pounder and hooked ... net was ready and the darn thing shook it's foot and was gone. took awhile for me to get over that one. would have been a great addition to the beaver and the pelican ...

on the rest .... a fish over 50 .... tell me when to throw, a 40 (called 45) ... after 8 figyur 8's ..... she doesn't want what you're throwing .... it was the next cast after the supposed "indescresion" that the fish ate and yes, it was cool to steal a fish from hugo ... still laughing my a$$ off at how priceless that was.

also learned that people out there count fish for others .... and that, my friends is funny .... do they start at 30, 34, 38 or what ... help me understand the rules so i don't screw up ...
