Subject: Problems with Bucktail Blades and Rusting From Stamina

Recently, I have been working on making some bucktail lures, and found out that the blades that I purchased from Stamina were rusting. Apparently, the painted blades are made out of steel, and if the paint chips the blade will start rusting which spreads through the entire lure. I have since contacted Stamina and they will not help me through this, it was my mistake by not researching their products enough, but I didn't figure that they would make something that would be used and rust in water. So I am here, wondering if people could tell me a good place to go to get blades that will not rust. I have been to muskyshop.com however, they do not have the selection of colors that I require, and luremaking.com does not have the sizes that I need for my lures. So if anyone has any other ideas they would be grately appreciated.

Thank you for your help,

Blade Man

I clearcoat my blades with some rustoleum clearcoat. It seems to help some. One thing I will be doing with my gold and copper blades is clearcoating them when I get them. I am noticing that they tarnish just sitting in a plano instert box unused.

Amother thing you can try is buying their premium blades. A little more expensive but they already come with a clearcoat on them.

moore'slures.com or 1-715-356-6834. Dick has a good selection of blades, never had any of his rust. He may be hard to reach now, he spends a lot of time in Canada during the summer.

Don't get blades from Lakeland, The blades I have bought from them, the paint comes off in a few hours. And they bend really easily.

I get almost everything from Dick Moore. Fast service (as long as he is around) and a great selection of all musky sized lure parts

I like the Stamina blades a little better than the ones that I have purchased from Moore's.

Just do what Todd is recomending and spray some clear coat over the paint job...one can will last you a long time...cheap and easy.
