Haven't fished it in a few years but, submerged rock(large) especially blocking currents. Shoreline with rock and weed comibnation. This took me a while to catch on, when they say weed they mean any type of vegetation and it doesn't have to be a lot nor submerged. Deep water access helps in these spots. Bait colors for Sabaskong Bay have been traditionaly perch colored baits such as: Firetiger patterns, and the enviable green and yellow reef hawg. Gold(bronze) and orange bottom baits are good too for mimicing smallies. Sabaskong is stained water so don't be afraid of bright colors and if you go in September there could be a real thick algae bloom.

Posts: 724 Location: Southern W.Va. | Br sure to check out the rock reefs just west and south of Hay Island. Any rock/weed combo that are getting wind should be a topwater bite for sure. If algae is a problem look for areas that the wind has blown the algae out. If stuck with fishing algae, I had my best luck with a dark colored Sledge in the rocky areas or a dark colored Bert. I generally fish topwaters in the weeds. Mauser

Posts: 1058 Location: Medford, WI | nxtcast, We just took our annual trip up to Nestor Falls June 27-30th. My dad and I checked out Crow Lake last year and loved fishing on the clear water, so we decided to stay at MuskieBay Rsrt. (Great place if you're looking for somewhere to stay). We fished Crow the first 2 and a half days, but only had follows. Probably 13-15 fish ---mostly around 40" and 2 that were mid-40's. Everything is ahead about 2 weeks on Crow so they were already post-spawn and hard to find/catch. Our best luck was fishing the sides of islands and reefs with the wind blowing into them. Seemed the best thing to do was actually take the boat rather close to the island and cast outwards into the wind (Depth Raiders, Cowgirls, and Jakes got most of the follows in about 15-20 ft. of water). Only saw one fish in weeds and it was very small. On our last day, we had talked to a few groups who went out on LOTW and were catching some fish, so we thought we would give that a whirl. MuskieBay Rsrt. has a landing on Steven's Bay, so we put in there and just started fishing all of the weedy bays we came upon. 2 hit & misses early in the day and then I had a nice follow in thick weeds on a bucktail; 5 minutes later I hooked into a different, LARGER fish and finally got that 50"-er. Biggest fish taken by me or my dad so far and what a rush it was!!! Wow! I caught it on a Black Shumway Flasher (marabou tail) in the thickest of weeds possible to fish in! Hope any of this helps...I'm sure the weather has changed the past two weeks, but LOTW usually is very consistant in weedy bays. Tell your buddy good luck and have a great time! ....There's no place like Canada.... -Jake
