Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I'm going to be at Paradise Shores again this month from the 16th to the 22nd. I fished it hard and the Chippewa upstream a ways last summer for four days and only saw two fish during the searing heat wave with dead calm conditions and water temps pushing 80 degrees. If anyone is interested in fishing with me that week I will have an open seat most of those days, PM me. Has anyone had any luck there this year? Can I expect the same tough bite? I'm a flowage angler and thought I would be able to establish similar patterns there but it didn't work. Any info would be appreciated. I will most likely try Wissota or maybe some other smaller lake around there too if you have any suggestions, thanks.

Posts: 147 Location: WI - Land of small muskies and big jawbones | Unfortunatley I have found that the toughest time of the season on Holcombe usually runs from about the 1st week of July thru about Labor day. The water experiences quite an alge bloom this time of year most years. Before and after seems to be much better although this year things have been tough all along so far for me and others I know who fish it often. We did have a couple days where the fish were really moving good a few weeks ago but for the most part it has been a slow year there. If you don't mind travelling a little ways some other waters in that general area that would be worth a try would be Dairyland Flowage, Amacoy, Old Abe Flowage and Cornell Flowage. All of these are typical dark water systems. I personally do not consider any of these to be great action or great trophy waters. But they are decent musky waters for Wisconsin and have thier on and off days just like any other waters will have. Good luck to you.

Lockjaw is correct. Holcombe seems to shine in June and again after Labor Day, but never seemed to get going this year. You will find a lot of recreational traffic so it is best to fish early mornings and late evenings and after dark. Bucktails and surface baits would be my choice this time of year. There is a ton of structure all around Pine Point Park but you will have to fish this area early in the day because of boat traffic. The big bar (2 Island Bar) just west of the HWY 27 bridge has had fish on it all along so far this year, but again you will need to fish it early and late due to boat traffic. The area East of the bridge (Jump River and Main Creek) sees quite a bit less traffic but watch your map and locator closely as there is a lot of shallow stump filled water there. This area also gets quite a bloom. On the West side, if you stay in near the Chippewa River channel, you can avoid most of the bloom. Weed growth is exceptional this year and the fish have been in or just outside the weeds. There are many spots up the Chippewa to fish as well but again pay attention to you locator. Don't venture upstream of the HWY D bridge unless you know that streach very well. Many hittable rocks in this area. Down stearm of Paradise Shores try the man made dike both sides of the blue bridge. Across from Paradise shores try both points leading into Pine Lake as well as both sides of the bridge itself. Posts: 31 | Not much to add from what Fred and Lockjaw said, but keep trolling in mind as an option this time of year. Try to follow the old river channel edge. For whatever reason Holcombe was a little tough this June! Jason Malone

Derek, Don't know if you will be checking this site while vacationing, but my friends, who own cabins on Holcombe have been doing well up by the Jump River. Within the last few days, they caught a 39 & 40. They are also finding muskies hanging out under docks in bays just off of main lake points close to the river channel. Everything being caught on TopRaiders and jerk baits. Hope this helps. James

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Very tough week there, I only saw two fish the whole week. I nailed the smallies and pike on muskie baits which at least kept me busy. I talked to some other muskie anglers and they said it was really tough bite too. Water temps went all the way up to 83.
