Does anybody know where I can get a different (better) handle to put on these reels???? I have been told that the reel is made by pflueger. I like the reels, I just wish it had a better handle.

Is it a GS56 or GS66? (maybe ending in HS) If so, it is a rebadged pflueger trion. You may be able to use a gator grip handle.

i have the GS66. i would like to put a power handle on one or two of them to try them out. never had a pflueger trion or any pflueger...i was hoping for power handle, possible single grip..i'll see about the gator grip..but i dont think it's an upgrade to go from the gator to what came w/ it..

TRAP..email or PM me if you have suggestions.

It is a silver(5.3:1) GS 66.

I emailed Gator Grip and they weren't sure which handle would work with it. I do believe it is pretty much the same thing as a Pluegger Trion....at least it is on the outside.

Tell you the truth i dont think pflueger makes those reels for gander mountain unless pflueger is sleeping with shakespear. I scanned a 66 yesterday, the lowspeed model and the supplier name came up as shakespear.

Here is what i have found and got going on so far.
Abu garcia power handles fit. but you cannot use the plastic/silver "nut" holder/cover/lock that comes standard w/ the Gander Mountain G66's. you have to use an Abu nut holder/lock AND the little screw for that fits the abu handles. the little screw that comes with the G66 is too small diameter to screw in securely into the abu handle.
So.
Option #1. Abu Power handle $10 or it's $about $13 for the conversion kit (power handle, little screw and cover/lock) or so from www.jacksonlures.com
http://jacksonlures.com/Commerce2/AbuHand.
part # Part #21125 or 21600
i have one on now..works perfectly.

option #2. Shimano Cacutta TE handles. they fit. And you can can use the Gander Mountain silver plastic nut holder/lock and thier little screw. I dont know how much these are? or where you can get them. i have one one on now..it's great.

Option #3. Shimano Power Handles...with the wood single grip, they are gold. .use the gander mountain little screw and thier plastic nut/lock thingy. they are $22. i dont have one, but tried it and it works.

Option #4. Gator Grips. you have to use the "abu" little screw nut and nut cover/lock. i tried it, it fits. but am currently not using it. (it's barely an upgrade in my book)

i dont have acess to a regular calcutta 400 to see if thier handles fit or if they are the same from a TE? but i'm guessing they would fit..

so, for a cheap reel like the GS 66 or whatever the guide series is called, the abu power handles are the cheapest (and i think best) route to go...

i do not have any pflueger or shakespear reels to try out to see if they fit, i dont even know what kind of handles they make...

Save your old reel handles/screws/covers to put back on when you want to take it back for a new one if it breaks.
Thumbar..smooth drag, upgraded power handle..gander moutain runs sales, so you can get all set up w/ a good cranker for $80 or less.

Calcutta 400 TE Conquests reel handles do not work very well..and doesnt make sense $ wise...they have concave middle..

that's what we gots going on so far husta.

prrrrrr
