| I've seen suggestions from 40# - 60# for pike. What do you use? I've played around with 40# P-Line CFX leader material by tying perfection loops in each end. It seems to be pretty tough & is still easy to tie, but I'm a little leary that a pike be able to might cut through it. I've been considering picking up a spool of 60# Berkley Vanish leader material. Does anyone else use have any experience with this one? |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I prefer the Seaguar Premier leader line in the 65lb. I have had extremely good luck with this leader line.
Now for little pike with little sharp teeth it might be on the small side.
Big muskie have big teeth and it seems like the smaller fish always tear up the leaders more than the bigger fish.
Where are you fishing for these pike?
If Canada or anywhere they are very aggressive and plentyfull I would go to a 7 strand leader. Pike don't seem to be shy like a muskie in the areas I fish.
One other thing is the weeds. If you are fishing in heavy cover I would go with wire.
I do most of my fishing in open water all summer where I don't have to deal with obstructions so leader lb test can be smaller. When I fish in the weeds in Spring I will go to a fish if it gets in the weeds. Dragging a fish out of the weeds can give the fish more leverage, this will cause biteoffs. No one wants to see that.
Flourocarbon works BUT you need to adjust your fishing some when you go to that under different conditions. Good luck, I hope this helps you.

| In Canada in the Fall, we primarily use titanium leaders. When you're catching 50 fish per day, it's not worth messing with. However, around here (Michigan) we fish quite a few lakes where we catch both Bass & Pike. I've heard of folks using fluorocarbon leaders successfully ith no impact to the Bass catch rate (mostly with spinnerbaits). |

Location: oswego, il | I have used vanish in the 100lb. I like the seaguar too and have used it for pike in the 60lb, no problems. Climax is another good brand and very expensive. |
