Well of all things we snagged a 50 some in 50 some lb Sturgeon on St Clair last weekend! We thought we hooked the bottom @ first as the line just kept on going out (a few hundred feet by the time we slowed down). I took the rod and kept pressure on after tightening the drag down significantly. I felt it come to the surface and assumed it was a big log as there was no head shake. I remembered a Bill Sandy story though how he hooked into a 60 in class musky on LOTW and thought it was also a log....It took about 15 mins to finally get it near the boat..I saw a fin sticking up and it was coming in sideways, being snagged @ the back half. I got it to the boat and it made some very powerful runs but we were able to get her in the net. Big slimy sturgeon! Slamr has the pic and hopefully can post it here. The pic was not ideal as they are very slippery and difficult to hold and it was very energetic out of the water. Knowing this was an ancient fish our concern was to get it back in the water ASAP. It swam off well! Another great experience on the St Clair!

Here is one hooked in the 200# range. If you look closely you can see the weight out in front of the fish in about every film clip.

Sturgeon are a blast to catch. My in-laws live on the Wolf River and he catches a few a week right off his dock fishing for cats and walleye. I caught a 57" last year jigging for walleye on the Big Cut part of the river.
